Road Accident
Road accidents are reported in newspaper and on television every day. There are more frequently caused by reckless drivers rather than faulty vehicles. Last Saturday, while I was travelling from Ipoh, I witnessed a serious accident. The scene of the accidents was vivid in my mind. A motorcyclist was following behind was taxi very closely. He was so impatient that he was trying to overtake my taxi even near a sharp bend. At that critical moment, there was an oncoming car. The taxi driver swerved to the roadside and I got a terrible jolt. It was too late for the motorcyclist to avoid the car. His motorcycle ran against the bumper of the car and smashed its windscreen. The motorcyclist somersaulted over the car and was found lying in a pool of blood. It was a scene to chill the flesh! The car driver, who was cut by the flying glass, was in a state of shock. All that happened in split second and fear overwhelmed us. The taxi driver stopped his taxi and I quickly ran to the nearest to the nearest telephone booth to inform the police and the hospital. From a distance I could see some people trying to help the injured motorcyclist and the car driver. They carried them into one of the onlooker’s car and sent them to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile the taxi driver tried to control and directs the traffic. Soon the police arrived and they promptly took some measurements and evidence. After that they moved the damaged car and the motorcycle to the roadside to ease the traffic congestion. They also took down the evidence provided by witnesses and onlookers. Some sweepers were clearing the debris and the blood stains on the road. When the taxi finally continued the journey, I silently thanked God for my narrow escape. I learned a good lesson that impatience and recklessness would bring harm and danger. I was happy to see that Malaysians are public-spirited and they render help to others readily. Since then I remember and follow the saying ‘more haste less speed’ and ‘prevention is better than cure’. I believe good road manners and roads safety campaigns can help to reduce the number of road accidents which cause injuries, loss and lives and properties.

It indeed has given me a great lecture for being a safe driver and a disciplined pedestrian. I remembered it was 3pm May 28th afternoon. The day was so nice that our patrol team decided to go for a bike patrol.…

It was all in the southbound lane and we were in the northbound lane, but we just parked there because there’s just people everywhere; they’re just screaming, crying, whatever. I jumped the Jersey barrier and this guy is just FUBAR-ed. He’s still alive; it would have been better if he was just dead, but he died in the back of the ambulance. What we think happened, or appeared to have happened, was that he wrecked his truck and as it was rolling down the interstate; he got ejected. His truck was sitting sideways south of the accident and the weird thing is that some of the bystanders said that right after that happened, he stood up, and then, he got hit 2 or 3 times by other vehicles. He was, for as bad as he was messed up, still moving his eyes, still breathing, and still had a pulse. We boarded him quick, threw him in the back of the ambulance. The medic met up with us. We didn’t leave right away because we had that feeling that he wasn’t gonna make it. It was pretty much a give-me that he wasn’t gonna live. They put him a monitor on him, his pulse was like 20, then went to 16, then like 14, then like 12, and his breathing was getting shallow, and the biggest thing is the color of his skin. It went from red like road- burn to purple and then, it just went white when his pulse hit zero, and then, he died; there was no way to save him. He had a hole the size of a soft ball missing out of the side of his head like right here beside his right eye.…

I’ll never forget the first time I saw a motorcycle collision. I was walking home the night before finals week began. It was late and the walk to my dorm was relatively well-illuminated by the street lamps being swarmed by moths. In the distance I could hear the distinct whine of the motorcycle. As it came barreling down the hill towards the intersection I then heard music blaring from an oncoming car racing from an adjacent street. The collision happened in slow motion… glass and plastic everywhere. My subconscious took over as I sprinted to the lifeless biker’s aid. He wouldn’t move or respond. Another witness called 911 seemingly seconds before the ambulance showed up. This horrific event sparked my interest in a career as a Physician…

Irritated by my mom’s nagging, I mumbled nonsense between my teeth, and slowly buckled up my seatbelt. Then, I took out my earphones to enjoy my favorite music. My mother was trying to drive into the parking lot when all of sudden, a motorcycle suddenly came towards us. The man on the motorcycle was driving at a speed of approximately 40 miles per hour, and he was going so fast that he couldn’t control anything. My mom tried her best to change the direction of the car, but she wasn’t fast enough, causing the two vehicles to crash into each other. As soon as our car slammed into the motorcycle, the man’s body went flying into the air, and the motorcycle was knocked down to the ground. The man with dark brown eyes and a mustache deeply injured…

Two weeks back, my friends and I witnessed a car accident in front of our very own eyes. The night was still as there were not many cars on the road. However, the silence was disrupted by a loud screeching noise. The flow of conversation came to a halt as we turned our heads in unison towards the source of the noise. At that exact moment, we saw a black car crashed into a lamp post. The front of the car was severely damaged and minutes later, the bleeding driver could be seen limping out of the car. What we have just witnessed serves as proof that road accidents are becoming more and more rampant with every passing day. Some suggest imposing strict punishments for driving offences as a mean to reduce road accidents. In most situations, this holds true because punishments such as heavy penalty, community service and a prison sentence are able to change an offender’s behavior. Moreover, it deters the public from making traffic offences.…

I used to be the kind of person who thought nothing could ever hurt me, until a usual morning turned into a disaster, which made me realize that life can be taken abruptly. My event is my car accident. After waving goodbye to my parents, I was off to work on a beautiful evening. It was August 2, 2002 I worked at Burger Kind which was in Perrysburg, Ohio. I remember listening that day to Alanis Morisette, looking at the beautiful wild daisies freshly blossoming on the side of the road. Then, all of a sudden, I heard a loud noise, which was the driver's side tire blowing out. That's when everything spun out of control. I remember hearing the air bag bursting out then lost control. I headed straight for the ditch and end for end my convertible two times and smashed into the ditch upside down the opposite way I was going. Soon after the convertible started to roll, I was knocked unconscious. When I woke up, my front half of my body was in between the front seat with my head in the back seat. A neighbor who was checking his field saw the entire event and rushed to help me. He called 911 for me once they arrived they had to use jaws of Life to get me out of the car which was in the ditch. A few minutes after I hear life flight landing. Within minutes, I was in the trauma center at Toledo Hospital. Later, I was in my room with minor injuries and stayed for observation. After that day, I came to realize that life is too precious to be taken for granted. I try to take each day and make it worthwhile. When my history teacher gives me reading homework, I rejoice in the fact I am here to read it at all, and that I can learn, instead of being a vegetable in the hospital like so many are after terrible car accidents. A doctor told me that I was lucky to be alive. Now, I live every day like it is my…

I’ve never felt so close to death since that night. It was the longest seconds of my driving experience. This short story occurred in my homeland, Kozu island near Tokyo, Japan, where I have spent most of the time of my life. This is a very beautiful and splendid island. What I like about the island is that there are many narrow and winding roads that crazy drivers would love to drive on; I was the one of the crazy drivers on the island. I was driving a car in the middle of the night, and my friend’s car was following me behind my car. It was just before our favorite place of my island.…
