How Will the Wall affect The Rio Grande Valley? Since Donald Trump stated he wanted to build the wall across the U.S. Mexican border it started a huge controversy. On January 25, he signed an executive order to start building the wall to stop aliens from coming to our country, to him illegal immigrants present a treat to national security and public safety. He argues the wall will secure the border and difficult the trafficking of drugs, stop crime, illegal immigration and protect Americans from human trafficking and terrorism. The question everybody ask is “who will pay for this wall”? and how will affect the Rio Grande valley? The valley has been famous for drug trafficking and its crime it is the country’s biggest drug smuggling and crossing point for undocumented immigrants. Residents that live in south Mission say there is often immigrants hiding from the border patrol by their homes. Although many who cross the border don’t come to cause harm there are only in search for the American Dream. In a country where they know they have hope to give their family a better life. The same can’t be said for others some do cross because they are fleeing Mexico to come to the U.S. for safety and they come do harm here.
Trump’s wall will have a negative impact on the relationship between the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. Most importantly because Trump wants Mexico to pay for the wall by putting a tax on imported things coming into the U.S. This means Mexican products will become more expensive for us. For example, pricier tequila, candy, fruits and vegetables and other groceries, things RGV residents typically go to Mexico for, but also things we need such as cars, medicine, eyeglasses etc. If big retail importers raise prices in Mexican products it can hurt sales which means American
