I. Introduction

A. Rationale and Background of the Study
Over the past years, the economy of the Philippines has not been stable. As it has experienced growth and downturns, the food consumption of Filipino families has varied but rice, being the staple food in the Philippines, has steadily been on top of the food list. Philippine Food and Nutrition Security Atlas (March 2012) suggests that a typical Filipino diet is a combination of rice, fish and vegetables that is equivalent to 861 grams of food in raw or purchased form.
