It appeals to use both logos and ethos by providing information about the moon landings. Since the newspaper has such a high reputation ethos is made right away. They will assume that the paper is trustworthy because of where they are getting the information from. The audience will believe that all the facts are reliable and correct. They are reaching a large audience because of the excitement something like this brings to the world.
