Assignment #2: RH Bill

The Reproductive Health bills (House Bill No. 4244 or An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Policy on Responsible Parenthood, Reproductive Health, and Population and Development, and For Other Purposes, and Bill No. 2378 or An Act Providing For a National Policy on Reproductive Health and Population and Development), popularly known as the RH Bill, are Philippine bills aiming to guarantee universal access to methods and information on birth control and maternal care. The bills have become the center of a contentious national debate.
As to what I see, RH Bill could become an excuse for the others to just keep having sex before marriage knowing that they wouldn’t have to be responsible for anything. God gave life to humans as a gift, so, why and who is the government to control the formation of life? But even if I agree with the church’s opinions, it is undeniable that the people nowadays cannot be tamed. All the selfish desires of one individual affect a sea of people.
Pro, or Anti? The question has been running through the country over and over for years now, and there has been no definite answer as to the bill should be abolished or not. We all know that people keep having sex even if they know it's a sin and that's a fact. Today’s generation doesn’t really care about morals anymore. I mean, since they’re all doing it already and it seems like there’s no stopping, might as well take advantage of it. The bill is more like giving them the ideas of how and what the consequences will be if they're not careful. The RH Bill isn’t really an advocacy of premarital sex, it’s a fight against sexual ignorance. But whether the bill becomes a law or not, it’s all a matter of an individual’s

But, what people forget is, just because you aborted, it does not always mean those things. At the time, this bill needed to pass to protect the ideas and morals of many people. Some do not agree, and others do; it’s a matter of opinion. In the state of Texas, this bill was going to pass a lot easier than others do. However, House Bill 15 does not immediately pertain to many personal lives, just their opinions and beliefs. Therefore, this will be just another law that someone only thinks about when it’s needed.…

The Bush Administration was the administration that confronted this issue first and brought it into a big controversy. In its time the Bush Administration got to decide whether a vaccine should be required to attend a public school. Although this decision was not binding many states relied on it. One of the main problems people had with the administration was that it seemed to be religiously based. One can then infer that the Bush Administration is opposed to premarital sex and anything that would promote that. At the time of this article government policy already required one third of HIV prevention spending to go to abstinence until marriage programs. Many people wondered if this was based more on religious values rather than actual science. At times the government and the people within seem to take things to the extreme. One quote from the…

Overall, I believe that this act is outrageous in the idea that they are trying to cross religion and politics. The bill is trying to give access to non-profit organizations that don’t like same-sex marriage the ability to engage in partisan political activities. They are concerned about preventing same-sex marriage, and to put into effect the act of “Traditional” marriage. Personally, I am more of a traditional person, however, I do not believe that politics and religion should combine. It is not right to be discriminated by your beliefs by the government; one should not have to be persecuted to be in a relationship they feel as appropriate.…

    Abstinence or Abortion?

The Bill was clearly passed to target Planned Parenthood. They currently supply only a few school districts with instructional materials which are required by state law to promote abstinence. The materials also contain information about contraceptives. With a law passed in 2009, any parent who wishes to review the materials used or remove their student from any class they find objectionable, may do so. This in many eyes gives fair flexibility to the students, parents, and school districts. So why do we still have a problem with the current situation, which again, is clearly made an impact on more teens.…

Marriage is not a civil right. Society can dictate what kind of sexual arrangements they want even if it discriminates against a certain type of people. Therefore if a large group of society opposes it then it should be banned. Issues like these are very controversial and should handled with delicacy, taking into account all sides of the…

Personally, I am a supporter of the controversial RH bill because I believe that it would be advantageous to our nation in the long run; however, I am against abortion. Ironic isn’t it? I know for a fact that it is not a perfect proposition and that it will not exactly solve all of our…

Unsurprisingly, the U.S government has the largest amount of control over sexual education programs. Despite declining teen pregnancy rates, the government still has a great interest in instituting effective sexual education programs, with a focus on abstinence programs. Since 1996, over $1 billion dollars have been spent to promote pre-marital abstinence among young Americans. (Boonstra 1) Despite the large amounts of funding given to abstinence programs the government has shown an increased willingness to support comprehensive programs over the last decade. The Responsible Education about Life or “Real” Act has been introduced in every congress since 2005 and “serves as an important tool to garner congressional and public support for comprehensive sex…

Abortion is an essential part of living in the modern world. Today, we expect people to be able to identify what sex is and what procreation is. They are not the same. To enjoy it as an expression of love, intimacy and desire is different from the sole purpose of making a baby. We also can expect to have the ability to plan our future families. Contraception works for most people most of the time when it is used or having it’s theories applied. But, we are fallible, and our judgments sometimes are not clear. Sex, by its very nature, can be passionate and impulsive, it is not always planned or prepared for. Family planning demands that abortion be made available as a backup when contraception has failed. When mistakes happen for a variety of reasons and the woman becomes pregnant, options to amend and/or end the pregnancy should be available.…

Instead of receiving proper education, it has been replaced with religious based abstinence-only sex education programs. In many red states, particularly in the South, conservatives have completely replaced proper sex education with abstinence only programs that continuously fail to lower teen pregnancy rates. “Ninety-five percent of Americans have sex before marriage and, on average, adolescents in the United States have sex for the first time at about age 17 but do not marry or begin having children until their mid- to late 20s. During this long interim period, they may be at heightened risk for unintended pregnancy and STIs. Yet abstinence-only programs denigrate sexual activity before marriage as shameful and ignore the needs of sexually active adolescents.”…

In it's role as a moral of teacher, the law now misleads America about the true nature of marriage. Ever since the court case, Obergefell v. Hodges, in the summer of 2015 gay marriage has been documented as legal in all 50 states according to the Constitution. Nowadays, it seems as if those who hold pubic office are straying away from the founding fathers original intent, which was to build a nation based off of Judeo Christian values. Same sex marriage is one of the many issues that contributes to the downward spiral of the moral fiber of The United States. Same sex marriage should be repealed in The United States in order to restore the original intent of marriage.…

One of the biggest controversies facing this country today is that which surrounds same-sex marriage. Although there are many arguments for and against this issue, the foundation of our government revolves around certain beliefs, which establish the method of lawmaking in the United States, but also protect the rights of its people. These rights were set forth in the Bill of Rights portion of the United States Constitution in 1789 and ratified in 1791. Despite further additions to the bill of rights overtime. Never has there been an amendment added that would restrict the rights of the people as this issue is proposing. This would alter the core foundations of our country and therefore affect every individual. Based on the rights granted to the people as a whole by the founding fathers and set forth in the Bill of Rights, it is unconstitutional, discriminatory and unreasonable to prohibit same-sex marriage.…
