She’s out of my League
How many people do you know that have broken up with someone and later wanted them back because they were jealous of their new girlfriend? Or perhaps, have you ever lacked the confidence to approach someone? Well the movie She’s out of my League is all about that. The movie is about a guy name Kirk who is played by Jay Baruchel. He is an average Joe who can't believe his luck. Although he's stuck in a seemingly dead-end job as an airport TSA security agent, against all odds, Molly which is played by Alice Eve, a successful and outrageously gorgeous babe, has fallen for him. Not only is Kirk stunned, but his friends, family and his ex-girlfriend, too. Now he has to figure out how to make the relationship work, even though he'd be the first to admit she's totally out of his league. She’s out of my League was a well-structured film in my opinion. This film was unified around a central theme. The theme of the film is that it is ridiculous to rate people based on looks and decide that you can't be with someone based on some rating of 1 to 10. In the beginning of the movie, Kirk is having a confrontation with is ex-girlfriend Marine. Marine had ended her relationship with Kirk for more than 2 year and she was extremely contemptuous of his continued romantic interests after his latest pursuit. The producers of this movie couldn’t have thought of a better way to open the movie. The plot and the events, conflicts, and characters that constitute it must be carefully selected and arranged so that their relationship to the theme is clear (Boggs, & Petrie, 2008). This was the most important scene of the movie because it leads the way for other events to happen naturally and logically. In this scene, the producers wanted to get the viewer to see two points. One point making it clear that Marine didn’t

Wigg plays 30-something year old Annie, who wakes up one day and realizes she’s on the edge of becoming a complete failure. Her bakery has gone out of business. Every day she passed her boarded up bakery, Cake Baby, on her way to her crappy job at a jewelry store. She can’t help herself but warn people buying engagement rings that love is not forever. There’s an intense scene in which Annie gets into an argument with a teenage girl who was intending on buying a necklace with the words “friends forever.” Annie is single…unless you consider her having a “sex partner” a relationship. So I guess the only real thing in her life is her absolute best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) who tells Annie she’s getting married and wants her to be her main of honor.…

I believe the main character in the film to be Cady Heron who is played by Lindsay Lohan and is a sixteen year old girl. She was homeschooled her entire life until now. I would place Cady in the Adolescence stage of Erikson’s theory of development. It is described that the basic conflict in this stage is identity vs. role confusion. In this stage teens need to develop a personal sense of self and personal identity. If one is able to succeed it will lead them with the ability to stay true to their self. Failure to do so leads the individual to role confusion and a weak sense of self.…

The French-Belgian film (the director was Belgian) Ma Vie En Rose (My Life in Pink) is a story set in France about a family of six (Mom - Hanna, Dad - Pierre, three sons (Ludovic being the youngest, and Daughter) in which the 7 year old son, Ludovic (Ludo for short), has a gender identity disorder. Ludo thinks he's a girl and God mistakenly made him a boy when his second X chromosome didn't go down the chimney. He attempts to correct this mistake by dressing like and acting like a girl. At first, Ludo's parents find his behavior humorous. However, after repeated incidents of girlish behavior - including dressing up like a girl and pretending to marry his best friend, Jerome - his parents start to think there's a serious problem and find a psychologist to help their son. The psychologist is apparently unsuccessful in convincing Ludo that he is meant to be a boy. His continued behavior considerably stresses his parents. They are at times accepting of the way he is and at other times exasperated and livid at him for being so indecisive about his sexuality. But his problems are also affecting his school life (the parents of Ludo's classmates successfully petition the school to expel him) and his social life [his friends make fun of him and call him bent (gay)]. After Pierre (Ludo's father) is mysteriously laid-off (Jerome's father is Pierre's boss), Pierre finds another job. However, this job calls for the family to move from the suburbs of Paris. This move let's Ludo and his family get a fresh start.…

The movie World Trade Center (2006) directed by Oliver Stone centers around the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The movie follows two Port Authority officers, John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, who attempt to aid in the rescue of 9-11 victims. While trying to make their way to help victims in the first Tower that had been hit, they become trapped under the rubble without an ability to get free or call for help. The movie centers on the struggles faced by these two men to overcome fear, pain, and loss as they struggle to make it back home to their families. This movie can serve as a learning aid to address steps for alleviating the crisis, using coping skills, and developing resiliency.…

I choose to watch the movie “A few good men”. The story line goes as where Tom Cruise is asked to defend two marines who are charged with murder of a fellow officer. During the investigation it was found that the marines were ordered what they call a Code Red. A code red is where disciplinary measure is told to the marine when a member offends against his unit. This marine was beaten, gaged, bounded with tape by his fellow officers because in the squad’s eye he was not standing up to their needs. The two marines argue that they had a direct command from the higher authority to commit such act. Throughout the movie it came out that Colonel Jack Nicholson character had committed a crime and that this was unethical in the law and the United States Marines. The two marines Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Downy bound, gagged and tortured William Santiago while he was sleeping him later died of bleeding in the lungs due to the assault. Demi Moore an advocate for counsel (Joanne Galloway) believes that the two were only following orders and did not mean to intend for Santiago to die. There are two ethical issues here that I see as far as the movie went. One being the murder was performed and the other is that the code red was ordered of Jessup as a cover up.…

42 (2013) gives its audience a feeling of sympathy towards Jackie Robinson while also having you feel a burning hatred towards the people that mistreated him. The movie 42 is a time portal back to the 1940’s when soldiers were returning home from war, baseball was America’s sport, and segregation was still occurring. It is the true story of Jackie Robinson’s (Chadwick Boseman) first two years in the big leagues of baseball. The trials and tribulations that he had to overcome as a result of being the first negro baseball player to play in the Major Leagues really gave me insight on what it was like to be an African American in the 1940’s. A scene where African Americans had their private entrance into a ballpark that was separated from the whites only scratched the surface that is the main issue of the film: racism. Director Brian Helgeland did a great job showing the audience the perspective of racism through the eyes of the African Americans, and more specifically Jackie Robinson. The fact that people, such as Phillies’ manager Ben Chapman (Alan Tudyk), would yell derogatory things to him and that he couldn’t fight back would cause me to sympathize for Jackie. In that same scene Jackie breaks down in the dugout because the racist hecklers, specifically Chapman, were wearing him down. Helgeland did a great job at showing us that Robinson was not immortal to feelings, but rather that he was human like all of us. No matter what someone shows on the exterior, they may be feeling different on the inside.…

The man she follows, and loves, is Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise), a high-powered pro sports agent who has so many clients he can't really care about any of them. He spends most of his time as a road warrior, one of those dogged joggers you see in airports, racking up the frequent flyer miles in pursuit of the excellence they read about in pin brained best-sellers. One night he has a panic attack in a lonely hotel room, and writes a memo titled “The Things We Think and Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business.” One of the things he thinks is that agents should be less concerned about money and more concerned about their clients. That gets him a standing ovation in the office, but a few days later, when he's fired, he understands why agents do not say those things they think. Maguire stages a grandstand exit (his decision to take along the office goldfish plays awkwardly, however). But when he asks who's walking out with him, only Dorothy, an accountant he's met just once at the airport, stands up and says she believes in him. Dorothy is a widow with a cute little son (maybe just a mite too cute).…

Orson Welles said’ We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.’ We desire the feeling and needs of belongingness and love. After we met and loved someone, we think we have a certain understanding of love and the way we get along with our lover, however, at the same time, we lose our desire of giving love and being loved by someone. Time makes us have a clear view of our lovers, including both their bright side and dark side. However, most of us forget how to embrace, forgive, accept our lovers in the long-term relationship. It results we are alone again.…

Many film attempts have been made aiming to portray the abundance of life within a man on the cinema screen. One of the most successful ones would be “Zorba the Greek” (1964), directed by Michael Cacoyannis and with Anthony Quinn as the leading role. The plot of the movie originated form the novel “Zorbas The Greek” by Nikos Kazantzakis, that was first published in 1946. The film portrays the culture of the time in Greece, and more specifically the culture of Crete, the largest Greek island, where the plot unfolds. “Zorbas t he Greek” successfully depicts situations of extreme anger, sadness, lust and joy that conquer humans during their course in life. Alexis Zorbas reactions to such feelings define the movie and give the viewers a diachronic sense of admiration and amazement towards the main character.…

The Conspirator opens with a brutal night of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. In the aftermath, eight conspirators are charged with plotting to murder the President, Vice-President, and Secretary of State. The lone woman among them, Mary Surratt owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices met to plan the attacks. Her son, John Surratt, was also allegedly part of the conspiracy, though he vanished after the killings. A Union war hero and lawyer, Frederic Aiken, agrees to defend Mary when her Southern attorney convinces him she needs a Northern soldier on her side for a fair trail, since she’s a civilian being tried by a military tribunal. Like most Lincoln supporters Aiken is sure Mary’s guilty and believes helping her betrays his country. He smirks with hatred and distrust when she denies being an assassin during their first jail cell interview. Yet his compassion and sense of justice gets the better of him as he soon realizes the military tribunal and its prosecutor Holt, decided Mary’s fate long before the trial began and will do whatever it takes to make sure they get the outcome they demand. Aiken does his best to raise enough reasonable doubt to convince half of the tribunal of Mary’s innocence; but due to the influence of Stanton on this case, Mary Surratt was proven guilty and hanged.…
