Review of Dr. Horrible
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, directed by Joss Whedon, is a super-hero musical tragicomedy produced in very limited budget. Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), the protagonist, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), the antagonist, and Penny (Felicia Day), the girl between Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer, are the main characters in this 40-mins miniseries. It won the People's Choice Award for "Favorite Online Sensation" in 2008 and Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2009. What makes this movie so special? Dr. Horrible is doing whatever he can to be a bad guy and to get into the evil league while Captain Hammer not only stops his evil plans but also takes Penny from Dr. Horrible. Finally, Dr. Horrible fails to kill Captain Hammer but Penny is killed accidently instead. The movie ends up as Dr. Horrible gets into the league but lost the girl he loves. Characters in this movie are different as the characters we usually encounter. The bad guy is not bad enough and the good guy is neither good enough, which makes them less typical but more three-dimensional. For instance, instead of being serious and wicked as most of the bad guys did, Dr. Horrible is funny and even cute, only thing that makes him "bad" is his goal of getting into the league. He uses casual word like BTW or says "there are kids in that park", which makes him a attractive person and less evil. Captain Hammer, however, is the opposite of Dr. Horrible, who is a super-hero but not that good. He does good things not because he wants to do such things but to enjoy himself in showing off and being mean to Dr. Horrible, and I love this character because he is super-annoying hero. As he pushes Penny to the dump while it is totally unnecessary, we can see his showy personality. In the scene where Dr. Horrible meets Captain Hammer in the laundry, Captain's arrogant and ostentatious personality is being well depicted. As he says, "I do not go to the gym, I am just naturally like this." Along with

The movie was great because how they acted their roles were exceptional. Honestly, the roles given to them are really hard because they will handle all the emotional and physical challenges of their roles. You really need a good actors to be able to act it out, and so they did. It was so moving, since you are able to see hopeless people who as much as possible keep their selves positive and enthusiastic in life. It is directed by Penny Marshall, the film was produced by…

In particular, General Jack D. Ripper character is humorous and his acting is applaudable. Unrealistically, Ripper was able to order a nuclear attack without obtaining permission from the President which is contentious and strange. There are more candidates for his position that are not as derange as he is. Clearly, through the proper procedures and testings, a deranged General wouldn’t have been appointed to that position. The phrase “precious bodily fluids,” stated by Ripper (General Jack D. Ripper; Dr. Strangelove) was also humorous as all organs are precious, but what’s even more precious is the males bodily fluids. Another character I found to be unbelievable is Major Kong. Near the end of the film, no man is as eager or excited to be riding a bomb as it descends from the plane. I found it to be ridiculous, but nonetheless humorous. Even though this film is mainly about an accidentally nuclear bomb heading its way to Russia, the disbelief of the logic of events and the characters themselves have contributed to the enjoyment of watching this…

1.I believe what makes this film so great is the plot of the film combined with the actors ability to give life to the story. Gary Cooper who plays Kane in the film, is an upstanding and ethically good man. Since he demonstrates these characteristics in the film, he makes a believable Marshall. Another reason why this film is so great, is because of the hero premise. I believe this causes the "unsung hero" to resonate with the audience's feelings. This is shown at the very end of the film after the Marshall had confronted the criminals. Even though Kane had stopped Miller, no one in the town cheers or celebrates. They kinda of just accept it as it is and just move on without giving their thanks to the Marshall.…

Nathan Fillion is an amazing actor. He is himself within the multitude of roles he portrays. His characters, Richard Castle, Cpt. Malcolm Reynolds, and Captain Hammer are very alike but also have some differences. Fillion does an excellent job becoming each of these characters and making them his own.…

The homecoming musical performed this year, in the Shaw Center Auditorium, was Little Shop of Horrors. Being part of the crew, gave me the opportunity to see the play grow from rehearsing on an empty stage, to what was presented on opening night. However, I only had one opportunity to seat in the audience and see the entire play on Thursday, September 19th. Not knowing much about the play before that night, I was very surprised about everything that happened. Everyone I thought was important ended up dead, and I wasn’t expecting that. But I really liked it, because it had that surprise factor that made me jump off my seat a couple of times. Also, it was well structured, making it easy to understand what led to every situation and the characters gave live to every scene making the musical exciting and funny, which kept me interested until the end.…

I think that Captain Beatty portrays the perfect villain archetype in the book, I will show you why with some quotes. "The whole house is going up."(38) This quote is when they go to the old woman's house to burn books. Captain Beatty decides they should burn the whole house down instead of just the books, he is also killing a woman. "Here we are."(110) This quote comes when they pull up to the house that they got the call from. Beatty says in a happy voice "here we are." Montag sees that it is his house and Beatty is liking the fact that Montag is suffering. Beatty is a villain because he is violating everything, and I guess committing crimes but he is also tricking Montag into doing these acts of crime too.…

The main character had a terrible relationship with his father. They didn’t see eye to eye at all. The father just took him to baseball games and left him there with an usher that he paid to watch him. The absence of a father figure was significant to his childhood. When he grew up he tried to be anything but that memory. He was involved in his children’s lives. This would be a family theme where the parent separates themselves from the child, so they could attend to their own matters in life. The next theme can be seen in the family that has the young girl being feed information like a sponge ruining her childhood so she could get ahead intellectually. The parents did not see her as a child but as some sort of machine. It is not the proper way to raise a child. She was socially awkward and didn’t have the social skills to socialize with the other children at Kevin’s birthday party. This theme is where the parents treat the child as an object rather than a living being. The next one is in the single mom with the two kids. She struggles to support for her family and her children disrespect her all the time. The son was so distant from her and left all the time, while the daughter was in love with a troubled boy. The son was having problems with himself since she went through puberty and he didn’t have a father figure to explain all the changes in his body and while he was feeling certain things. Todd became that father figure when he married the boy’s sister and got to explain what was happening through experience. This helped out the single mother trying to support her two children. The youngest son and brother of Gil the main character displayed the same type of parenting as the grandfather did with Gil, abandoning his child and dumping him with whoever would take care of him.…

I will start with Sam Spade. He is the hero of the story, but I would say he is more of an anti-hero. He plays by his own rules. He is tough and a bit hard-nosed. He doesn't seem to be upset that his partner is dead. I feel that he knew Brigid killed his partner from day one, but for some reason he didn't let on until the end. Knowing this he still put up with her lies and melodrama. He obviously isn't a man of scruples as he was having an affair with his partner's wife. At the end I wonder did he love Brigid as he claims or was he just playing with her? I'm also left wondering was he redeeming his character by turning Brigid over to the police or was he saving his own skin? I like his character but I'm not entirely sure about his motives at all points in the movie. I'm not sure how much I would trust him.…

In Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog, the characters reflect many archetypes which show us the true nature of humans, the need for a positive conclusion. One character in specific is Dr. Horrible himself, who plays the character archetype of the Hero. However, Dr. Horrible follows a more non-traditional Hero Cycle. His status quo is a constant attempt to be evil resulting in being stopped by Captain Hammer. Bad Horse contacting Dr. Horrible calls him to his adventure to prove himself to The Evil League of Evil. The trail that Dr. Horrible faces is Captain Hammer meeting and dating Penny, who is the love interest of Dr. Horrible, not to mention the Damsel in Distress that he must save. In the approach, Dr. Horrible devised a plan to kill Captain…

The biggest problem in the book is that everyone seems to be caught up in a power struggle trying to dominate or force everyone else to do what they want. Alex is clearly a bad or evil person. His droogs are bad due to the fact they do bad things to people and society at large (rape, murder, assault). Yet are others characters in the story bad for doing bad things to Alex or might they simply just making life a little bit unbearable for him from time to time. Who’s to say who is really good or bad? Alex does his fair share of bad but so do others.…

Another positive attribute of a villain is they will do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. This very similar to how I will approach my life goals in the future. I will do whatever it takes to become the person that I envision for myself. The goal is not the point; it is the drive to achieve that goal. Regardless of what I want to do in life, no matter how hard, I will do whatever it takes to get myself to where I want to be. Dr. Strangelove is a satire of the doomsday and cold war, and black comedy directed by Stanley Kubrick.
