Abstract

The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF), Fifth Edition was released in 1993 and is designed to measure normal personality traits in adults ages 16 and older. Dr. Raymond Cattell published the first edition of the 16PF in 1949 after extensive research using factor analysis techniques. The 16PF measures 16 primary personality factors and five global personality factors. Available in a wide variety of languages worldwide, the 16PF is recommended for use in a wide variety of settings including counseling, school, occupational, and research. It is available in paper and pencil or online formats and scoring can be done either online, through downloadable software, or via mail. The publisher offers a variety of reports to administrators based on the information needed and their intended use. A plethora of research has been done to confirm the instrument’s reliability and validity. Withstanding the test of time, the 16PF continues to be one of the most commonly used personality assessments.
