Throughout history a question has been raised. That is “What is the difference between being resurrected or being reincarnated?” There are many things to consider in this subject. For example, what the similarities and/or differences between the two. We must think about what each of these things actually means and what purpose they serve.
We must first put into consideration the similarities between reincarnation and resurrection. Then we consider the differences. The first obvious difference is that reincarnation is said to occur multiple times while resurrection is said to occur only once. There are three questions we must ask when comparing the Hindu and Christian beliefs of the afterlife. The first is “What survives the death of the body?” In Christianity, there are very straightforward concepts about the afterlife as well as contrasting views. To put it simply, many believe that a spiritual body may be resurrected after death. In fact, some Christians continue to believe in literal resurrection of earthly bodies. This may be due to what it says in Christianity’s biblical texts. As it states in the bible, the holy figure Jesus had his soul resurrected three days after he had been crucified and put into a tomb.
Hinduism has a more complex view when it comes to dealing with reincarnation and resurrection. If one is to be reincarnated, then it is believed that the spiritual body survives and is therefore transmitted to another physical body. However, if one is a Brahmin then they are not to be reincarnated then only the essential self-survives. It is possible to avoid reincarnation by worshiping and devoting oneself to another god.
