Response Paper 1: Writing effective academic Papers
1) Introduction
Students enrolled in graduate level programs are must write essays and research papers at an advanced academic level. Although writing styles may differ depending upon the given task; nevertheless, the process for writing remains the same. Many graduate students find essay writing tedious and time-consuming; however, the journey is much easier if students followed a few simple steps. A well-written essay consists of several important steps: planning, research, drafting, and editing.
2) The Basics of Academic Writing

Taking notes is essential in the research process. It is recommended not to take notes on one’s first reading of the research; yet, highlighting important information is strongly suggested (CP). When making note of sources, write down all pertinent information. This will greatly aid in the creation of the bibliography page.
Next, writing a draft essay is just as important as writing the final copy. Writing the first draft allows one to work on the structure of the essay. The standard structure of an essay is introduction, body, and conclusion.
The introduction paragraph of an essay is important to the structure of the essay. The introduction paragraph directs the audience by introducing the topics to be covered (WC). It should follow a logical progression from general to specific and end with a clear and concise thesis statement. Moreover, the thesis should clearly state the main argument of the essay. Like the degree program at Euclid, the thesis works as a roadmap for the essay.
The body of an essay should consist of three or more main topics in support of the thesis statement. “These details can include support from research and experience, depending on the assignment (WC).” Each main topic represents a new train of thought; therefore, it should begin as an indented
