The society that we live in has developed because of the human nature of having a family. A family is a important figure in a persons life, but the said family can also be a detrimental to a persons health. One example of this is in the book A Place Where the Sea Remembers. Family figures are very important to a developing child and to the parents.…
Knowing who we are and where we belong to makes us feel happy and secure. Family is always the first and forever group that we belong to. They have more influence than any other group in shaping our identity. Other group like friends also help shape our identity but to a lesser extent. Family offers environment in which a person learns early, at the same time family is the first source of information that can be trusted and realistic, children’s education and the family make them who they are.…
According to Friedman, Bowden, and Jones (2003), because the family unit is the most rudimentary unit of today’s society, “…it is the social institution that has the most marked effect on its members” (p. 4). For most, family is the most basic and lasting social connection. Family is also “…the fabric of our day-to-day lives and shapes the quality of our lives by influencing our outlook on life, our motivations, our strategies for achievement, and our styles for coping with adversity” (Fontaine, 2009, p. 37). A person’s success or failure in life can be determined by the quantity and the quality of influence the family has had on his or her development.…
A healthy family system is a family unit in which each members has their needs met. These needs include safety, security, survival, love and belonging, as well as self-esteem and developmental skills. In a healthy family structure, the family members share a love for one another, respect each other and follow a set of rules that protect and maintain the welfare and development of each family member (Jamiolkowski, 2008).…
Family is the oldest and most persistent human education places, a person's behavior that is nurtured most of the family, a harmonious family is the foundation of social harmony, but also a place to develop personal morality.…
A basic function of the family unit is health promotion and prevention. Health is defined as a state of physical and emotional well-being (Ross, Mirowsky, & Goldsteen, 1990). Families have a relationship among the members that is multilayered and based on their shared history and perceptions of the world. This relationship works together to mitigate stressors that affect the unit. “The interrelationships found in a family system are so intricately tied together that a change in any one part inevitably results in changes in the entire system” (Freidman, Bowden, & Jones, 2003, p. 7). Healthy families systems adapt to the changing stressors of the individual units to mitigate the affects of the stressor on the system. This might be seen through prevention tactics such as vaccination to prevent disease or healthy lifestyle choices to encourage well being.…
‘If you have a Family, then you have life as a whole since the rise and fall of every individual depends solely on the family also the family forms the basic unit of our society; therefore our communities are only as healthy as our families. Let us look at the family as a body of individuals who seek for unity .Each individual member of a family has the need to be accepted not by, but as part of the whole body. Simply put, if a member of a healthy family feels needed, loved and safe, then there is a great job being done in keeping a family healthy and this could be considered as a family in a good general health…
Concept: To survive families require certain familial values. All families must hold respect for each other, be loyal to each other, and support each other.…
Family determines our future. It shapes children into who they will become. If a family sets a bad example for the child, such as involvement in drugs, alcohol, and crime, then the child will most likely follow the same path. If a loving family spends time to teach their children morals and values, then the child will most likely become a good-spirited, well-rounded character. Which type of person would you prefer to be around, given the preceding choices? Therefore, the importance of family, a group of people that inspire and help each other grow, determines who will inhabit the world in the years to come.…
When it comes to the word “family”, many different things come to mind, especially the bond between children and their parents. For some, family comes to mind when they think of dinner every night together and how involved their parents are in their lives. Someone else may think of family as people living together, and relying on each other within an economic relationship, but nothing more than that. Although all families are different and unique, most have very similar conflicts along with comparable relationships.…
Our family are the first group to which we belong to, the family has more influence than any other group on forming our identity. Families provide love, protection and the opportunity for us to find out who we are through our relationship with them and others. not all families provide opportunities for personal growth. The expectations of parents and siblings may drive us to want to do better having a positive effect on us or may drive a wedge between parents or siblings and children.…

There are many areas to be explored underneath the Communications Studies umbrella making it quite difficult to narrow down a specific subject to write about. After performing some research I chose to discuss conflict and communication styles within families. Conflict seems to be an inevitable event in all-interpersonal relationships and the way one manages such conflict can determine how the rest of the relationship may be influenced. According to Wilmot and Hocker (2005). Conflict is usually a struggle between at least two parties who have indifferences in goals. Families tend to deal with this issue differently based upon communication patterns, perceptions and environment.…
Friedman, Bowdan & Jones define family as “A unique, small group of closely interrelated and interdependent individuals who are organized into a single unit in order to attain family functions of goals” (Friedman, Bowdan, & Jones, 2003, Chapter 6). A family works together by learning the dynamics of its members health and the necessary actions to improve members health. Family encouragement is significantly important because individuals are more prone…
A dysfunctional family is opposite from a healthy family in every way. However, a healthy family is not a perfect family. There is no such thing as a perfect family. Every family bickers, yells, and will experience anger and hurt; but not all the time as in a dysfunctional family. In a healthy family, the family grows and learns from the hurt and the misunderstanding. All family members are treated with respect and parents are there for the children at all times. Children can sleep at night knowing they are safe in their home environment (Vannicelli, Forward, 1989; Benton 1993-1997).…
