KAROT OR ASIATIC BITTER YAM (Dioscorea hispida dennst) AS A RAT KILLER

CHAPTER I
Introduction
Health is wealth. Food plays very vital role in maintaining proper health. If we don’t have it, we will surely die. In our country, Philippines, we cannot finish a meal without having the food called rice. Not only in Philippines but rice is also a global staple food. The country is the 8th largest rice producer in the world, accounting for 2.8% of global rice production. Rice is an excellent food to help keep our body healthy. How can we eat rice? We get it from our farmers. Farmers also reap corn not only palay. Corn is the second most plentiful cereal grown for human consumption, and many cultures around the world have lived on this grain. In the Philippines Corn is the second most important crop. About 14 million Filipinos prefer white corn as their main staple and yellow corn accounts for about 50% of livestock mixed feeds. Some 600,000 farm households depend on corn as a major source of livelihood. To sum up farming is very important because it is the main source of livelihood to many people. It also plays a major role in national income and it has been known to be a major source of raw materials. Farming also facilitates transport and contributes to foreign exchange resources. But there are many problems arise that make our farmers difficult to harvest palay. One of the problems that arise is pest’s infestation. This results to a low harvest. However there many rat killer that are being sold to the market but many of our farmers cannot afford to buy because it is too expensive and it is not good for the soil. To address the problem of the farmers in maintaining food supplies, I came up with the idea of having a rat killer that is cheaper or affordable and eco-friendly which uses materials that are present to our backyards or if not, materials that can be bought in the market that are in low-price.

Accommodation for the homeless has been a world-wide problem for many years. This social problem is evident throughout Australia and in particular on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Universally, no one has yet found the solution to housing homeless people on a large scale or even been able to calculate exactly how many people are homeless. This research is aimed at creating a solution to the problem and to submit a new ideology for new development whereby every homeless Australian will have somewhere to live within 5 years. In addition, there will be evidence shown from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Housing Commission and other small Community Shelters, revealing the need for development in both rural and urban areas. According to the previous Prime Minister of Australia (Rudd, 2008 – 2013. P.5) there were more than 100,000 homeless people in Australia and it was clear the Federal Government needed to do more to stop the growing trend”. Current housing has become un-affordable to most people on low incomes.…

Sexual harassment in the workplace was unnoticed and many times ignored until recent times. It is a very complicated issue which includes many aspects like legal, emotional, civil rights, and personal. Besides that it is really hard to define as it includes a range of behavior from seemingly mild transgressions to actual sexual abuse. Most of the time women are the victims but men could also be a victim. In a culturally conservative country like Bangladesh, girls who have faced such incidents hardly speak out or seek legal help. In most of the cases finding no other way they leave the job. Sometimes parents do not permit their daughter to have a job to avoid such incidents. Because these incidents can have a serious impact on their family, social, and most importantly in their personal & emotional life. As a result many girls end up just being a home maker despite of the fact that they might have the capabilities to excel in their career.…

Cigarettes are made from tobacco leaves and around six hundred other ingredients which are burnt to produce smoke, which is then inhaled into the lungs. Cigarette smoke contains around four thousand different chemicals which can damage the cells and systems of the human body. These include chemicals that are known to be carcinogenic, including tar, arsenic, benzene, nicotine and hundreds of other poisons such as cyanide, carbon monoxide and ammonia. Whilst it is the drug nicotine that addicts people to smoking cigarettes, it is largely these other compounds that cause lasting and often fatal damage to the cells in the human body (Fullick, 1998: 89-90). These compounds in the smoke are absorbed into the bloodstream and then carried around the body. Tar is a sticky black substance which is not absorbed into the bloodstream, but instead it accumulates in the lungs. Tar and other chemicals from cigarette smoke make smokers more likely to develop chronic diseases, within the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Every time a smoker inhales, these chemicals are drawn into the body where they interfere with cell function and cause problems ranging from cell death to genetic changes…
