Research Paper On Upward Bound
I sit thinking were would this ticket take me. Last year my Upward Bound Program took most of the students including me to Missouri and there I learned about Study Abroad. I’ve always known from then on that I wanted to study abroad even if I didn’t know all to know about the requirements to be considered. There are some many beautiful places around the world, but time is short and I have to choose one place to go. I look at my ticket one last time and think to myself “this is going to be the best time of my life”. I have decided to go to Suva, Fiji. It will take most of the day to get there but I don’t think about the plane hours. Here I will be working day to day with a local animal charity. Not only helping with the animals but also finding

Have you ever been 1,376.1 miles from home? I have - 2 years ago. 2 years ago I went to Carbondale, Colorado. I was only 15 and had never been that far away from my friends, family, and home. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been exposed to so many wonderful experiences, opportunities, and cultures. I remember when I first received the email officially accepting me into the High School High Scholar (HS)2 Program. All I could do was think of all of the fun I was going to have and try to imagine how beautiful it was going to be. I started to imagine all of the dreams and possibilities that I had accomplished as of that moment. I realized that my future was actually in my hands. There were so many questions and things I was uncertain about. There were so many people I forgot that I was going to miss. There were so many things I wasn’t ready to leave or say goodbye to.…

Paul Fussell once said, “All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes, but tries new places all the time.” Going around the world would be a fascinating goal for the future. Meeting new people and getting to grasp what the world is like . Traveling would be interesting to do in the future because first I can challenging myself, second the adventures, and third to appreciate life.…

“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes. One day, I was walking around campus with my friend Faith when both of us stumbled upon a sign in the elevator that mentioned a trip to Europe to study our favorite parts of history. From that minute and on both of us knew we had to look into this one of a kind trip. A few days later we attended the course meeting for the trip both of us looked at each other, nodding our heads in excitement. This was when we finally and completely decided this trip would be for us and we would do everything in our power to go. I was hoping this adventure would show me the people, places, and things that I had heard about in books but also more. I…

Instead of going to the typical high school like my peers from middle school, I choose to travel 3-4 hours every day for a dual-enrollment program that challenges my mind and abilities every day. This fall, I will be attending University of California, Santa Barbara, under the Global Studies program. I will get a job to support my college education, and I will pursue internships, minors, and study abroad at every opportunity. I am going to become a diplomat through the U.S. Foreign Service, and I will explore the world, making change, helping people, and most importantly, gaining a broader insight of what makes the world tick. The more I travel, the more I will see, and as I learn I intend on using my knowledge to solve major problems and crises and leave the largest positive impact on the world I am capable of, with the help of those I…
