The Mona Lisa is a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci which is one of the most famous works of art in the world and it is an oil painting on a poplar wood panel. This is demonstrated by the fact that it is the most visited and viewed painting in the world. Leonardo Da Vinci, the famous Italian artist, painted the Mona Lisa between the years of 1504 and 1519 when Leonardo was living in Florence. The painting is believed to be a portrait of Lisa Gheradini, the wife of Francesco Del Giocondo, who was a Florentine cloth merchant. It is said that he commissioned Da Vinci to paint the portrait of his wife. It is also known by another title as La Gioconda.
