Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the Study

In our world today, many our jobless, many lives on the streets, many doesn’t eat 3 times a day or doesn’t eat at all, many are struggling everyday just to earn money so their family can live. This leads to malnutrition. Malnutrition has been a problem of mankind for a very long time. Since the beginning of mankind we have been struggling not to be malnourished. The history of this disease can be dated back as far as cave man.
Everyday many people die; one of those people may have died because of malnutrition. The sad truth is many people have died because of malnutrition. This research will help lessen malnourished people. This study will give them proper knowledge about their disease, for them to escape malnutrition and live a healthy life.

B. Statement of the Problem
This research aims to answer the following:
What are the causes of malnutrition?
Who are the common people that suffer from malnutrition?
What are the solutions to malnutrition?

C. Significance of the Study This research aims to help people who are suffering from malnutrition, to give them the proper knowledge about their disease. This research aims to know what the cause of malnutrition is. This research also aims to know the common people who suffer from lack of proper nutrition. Lastly, this research aims to know the solutions to malnutrition.

D. Scope and Limitation This study is about malnutrition. This study is done with factual information from reliable sources. This study only focuses to the causes and solutions to malnutrition. This research also aims to know the common children affected by malnutrition. This research is not done to test or prove any theory about malnutrition.

    According to the research, malnutrition affects 20 to 50 percent of the patients (Agarwal, Ferguson, Banks, Bauer, Capra, & Isenring, 2012). This is a problem which most of the time goes unrecognized by the hospitals and other acute care facilities. However untreated malnutrition is associated with number of negative consequences such as delayed wound healing, increased infection rates, functional decline, increased length of stay in the hospital and increased mortality (Shepherd, 2011). Dieticians from 56 hospitals in New Zeeland and Australia performed a research on this subject by performing screening of the patients for malnutrition using Malnutrition Screening tool (Agarwal et al., 2012). Dieticians recorded patients’ dietary intake at each time of the day they had a main meal and snacks (Agarwal et al., 2012). From 3122 participants in this experiment, forty-one percent were at risk of malnutrition and overall malnutrition prevalence was at thirty-two percent (Agarwal et al., 2012). Fifty-five percent of malnourished patients and thirty-five percent of well-nourished patients were consuming less than half of the food offered, stating that they were not hungry (Agarwal et al., 2012).
