The film started with a scene showing Rizal at Belgium writing a letter. The letter contains his thoughts that the Philippines has a serious illness and that it is plagued by the Spanish domination over our country. Crisostomo Ibarra was also introduced in the film, and it is Rizal’s alter ego. Ibarra had been forced to have two personalities because of the worsening problem in our country. He cursed the revolution and even the youth because they are asking for chains and not freedom with Spain. He said, “Mamamatay kayo bago pa man dumating ang inyong kamatayan.”…

    Retraction of Rizal

in the heart of the Filipinos, Dr. Jose Rizal had immortalized himself through his works and sacrifices for freedom and independence. Yet, his life was not always grand and perfect. Rizal’s greatness is secluded by the many controversies surrounding his life. The most intriguing of all was the issue of his alleged retraction. It was all about his reversion to the Catholic Faith, repudiation of any of his writing against Roman Catholicism and abomination of Masonry and all other issues linked to it such as his marriage to Josephine Bracken. That issue was claimed to be true by the Roman Catholic defenders but asserted to be deceptive by anti-retractonists. For some people to retract would mean little for they have little to retract, but this was not so of Rizal.…

In this article, different beliefs have been brought up. Apparently, I cannot believe anything that has been written in that article mainly because as a Catholic, I believe that there are only three Gods. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Is it not funny to think that there would be a God Rizal? In my own perception of these issues and beliefs, none of these are true or even proven. The fact that Rizal might have been another form of Jesus Christ for he has been believed to have lived the same way but in a different manner as compared to Jesus just doesn’t make any sense. I do not judge the people who believes these things or the people who has faith in Rizal. We do know that Rizal may have offered a lot for our country but come on, let us put these questions to our minds. Did Jesus roam around the world and had a ‘girl’ in whichever place he went? Of course not! That would be preposterous.…

My intention is to give a basic outline of the lovelife story between Josephine Bracken and Jose P. Rizal. So for reasons of this outline and other constraints it will unfortunately be necessary omit some aspects of their story in this outline report. I ask of anyone who believes that anything is incorrect. Then, should it be necessary, it can be amended. I ask that any information that is offered is factually based rather than opinion or rumour. Many Filipinos are unaware of the degree of affection that existed between Rizal and Bracken. The romanticised notion of Rizal as of a Filipino politician during his brief life with women from various parts of the world as his conquest overshadowed the real love and relationship he had with Bracken. Rizal was obviously happy in his relationship with the woman who filled in an emotional need during his lonely and boring days in exile life. Although his family was not happy about the relationship. His deep concern over Bracken is quite evident and revealing in the numerous letters he penned during the later part of his emotional, boring and lonelyness with his love life. Those were Rizal’s efforts to bring josephine bracken closer to the members of his family. Many inaccuracies and rumours relating to their have originated, persisted and been added to ever since first stepped into the stage of their lovelife. Most of these have been promulegate on the paper of evidence, or indeed in the absence of any evidence whatsoever and unfortunately in some cases by personages who really should have known better. To the best of my knowledge there is an evidence that supports the validity of that statement because rizal had been maried with josephine bracken and together they live as man and wife happily ever after.. it appears to have simply been based on deliberately details in a contemporary report yet it was given an apparent posibility by power of the love.…

While watching the movie, I have observed similarities and differences of some scenes from today’s youth. Let’s start discussing about the similarities. First thing I have observed is the harsh treatment given by the colonials to our fellowmen especially to women and children. They, if not physically, were verbally abused by the Spaniards. I compared it to what’s happening in our society today and quite noticed a similarity. It is similar in a way that women and children, even the men too, are still abused by foreign people and sometimes even our own people. They also treat them as slaves. Child labor – forcing minors to work – has been a big issue. Women slavery – treating women as slaves, sex slaves to be exact – has been an issue too. Nowadays, our people are still abused and these are oftentimes done by those who have the power like politicians and other well-illustrated persons. They think that with their wealth and position they have the right to hurt our fellowmen. Even a small mistake or a suspicion causes the people who have the power to physically abuse our fellowmen because for them that’s how they should be treated after what they have done.…

Jose Rizal, a man with so many accomplishments. Jose Rizal gives all of us inspiration in all the things we do. He is inspires us to be hardworking and diligent, which most of us are not. I am amazed that even though Rizal was in exile, he didn’t mind the fact that he was sent to Dapitan to live like a prisoner and yet he still manages to accomplish many things. He has taught the poor Mindanao folk to unite for trading so that they may become independent and free themselves from the Chinese and thus become less exploited, in the sense that he organized a cooperative even in exile. While many people would be in panic, despair or lose hope for any success in their lives because of being exiled Jose Rizal continued to serve his country. In Dapitan, he was an exemplary person to the youth because he builds school for theme. Furthermore, he taught his students arnis, wrestling, boxing and swimming without tuition fees.…

On January 28, 1890, Rizal left Paris for Brussels, capital of Belgium. Two reasons impelled Rizal to leave Paris, namely; (1) the cost of living in Paris was very high because of the Universal Exposition and (2) the gay social life of the city hampered his literary works, especially the writing of his second novel El Filibusterismo. His friends, including M.H. del Pilar and Valentin Ventura, were of the belief that he left because he was running away from the girl just as he left London. When he told them that the reason for his leaving Paris was economic because his money was dwindling, Ventura generously invited him in Paris without paying rent. He could not accept Ventura’s invitation, for he had a high sense of dignity and would not accept charity from any man.…

Even a small mistake or a suspicion causes the people who have the power to physically abuse our fellowmen because for them that’s how they should be treated after what they have done. Next thing I have observed is the racial discrimination. As we have discussed in class, it is one of the evils during Rizal’s time. Filipinos who were flat-nosed and brown-skinned were labeled as “Indios” and the Spaniards being pale-complexioned were termed as “Bangus” or milkfish in English. The Filipinos who were called “Indios” had little privileges unlike the “Milkfish” people who had most of the privileges to themselves. The Spaniards look at them like they were as tiny as an ant and they were of no importance to them. Foreign people thought that they were superiors against the Filipinos. They criticize them based on how they look and they treat them rudely based on how rude their criticism on their looks is. There were different beliefs in anointing officials in where Spaniards have believed that Indios have…

As what I have seen in the film viewing last meeting, the Filipino’s life was full of misfortunes. The Filipinos were unfairly treated and even discriminated by the Spaniards. Filipino women were abused by the Spanish friars and other Spaniards. Others were judged without even having due process and even tortured to death for crimes they did not even commit, such that of the child in the film, who was Crispin in Rizal’s novel. Although the Spanish government conducts a court hearing to those who were accused of a crime (only in some cases), they only give Spanish lawyers to defend those accused and even manipulated the law in favor of themselves, leaving the Filipinos with no other choice but to accept and suffer from the crimes that they didn’t even committed.…

The film "Rizal in Dapitan" is about the life of Jose Rizal (Albert Martinez) while he was inside the Dapitan. He was detained because of his opposition to the friars and Spanish Goverment, which caused his exile in Dapitan. During the early days of his stay in Dapitan. He is forced to turn to God by his friend who is a priest, Fr. Obach (Chris Michelena). He still stood on his position which caused leaving of the parish. Rizal made his stay very significant in Dapitan where not only was he become an ordinary prisoner but he also became a physician, teacher, engineer and agriculturist. Rizal’s mother, Doña Teodora Alonzo (Rustica Carpio) and Sister Mary (Candy Pangilinan) and Narcisa (Tess Dumpit) came to Dapitan as his request to be with them bringing with them a bad news about Leonor’s death. Because of the news, Rizal was gob smacked making himself losing to reality. Until one day, he met the adopted daughter of George Taufer--- Josephine Bracken (Amanda Page).Josephine came to the Philippines to accompany his step father and see Rizal for consultation. Rizal was not able to treat Bracken’s father, she left with the promise of coming back to the Philippines. Bracken kept her promise. Rizal and Bracken planned to get married.
