About Eilat
Eilat is the southernmost point of Israel, a port city at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba and a resort on the northern tip of the Red Sea. It is strategically located near the Sinai, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia and is Israel's gateway to Africa and East Asia. It has some light industry but is known more as a tourist center, with fine beaches, hotels, and an airport. The city is the terminus of an oil pipeline to Haifa. Eilat offers a wide range of accommodations, from hostels and luxury hotels to Bedouin hospitality. In recent years Eilat has been the target of militants from Egypt and Gaza causing a reduced tourist inflow to the region.

    Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745, in now what is known as Nigeria, but back then was known as the region inhabited by the Igbo people. He was one of 7 children, the youngest of 6 boys, and he also had one younger sister. Source 1, Equiano’s autobiography, “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa the African”, which tells the story of how he was kidnapped at a young age, possibly 11, from the Igbo village of Essaka in the region of Benin, where he had grown up.
