The writer makes us take Bruno’s side in this extract partly because he’s a child and every one tends to take the child’s side against a figure of authority. It also makes us side with him because he’s a strong boy who wants to make himself heard and stand up for what he believes in. This also shows he’s strong and courageous. As the text implies he shows great respect for his parents and does what he’s told by them; a quotation that supports this is ‘to be told what to do by mother and father – that was perfectly reasonable and to be expected’. When Bruno uses the proper nouns ‘mother and father’ this reminds us that Bruno is a young child. The language is very precise and careful, and we get the impression we are in Bruno’s mind. When you follow a character’s thought process you are more likely to side with them.

The whole article makes the opportunities available seem exciting and attractive. This is by using bold writing to highlight a particular activity also including some little things about each activity also including some little things about each activity to make them interested. Examples of this include the activity ‘young dancers and poets’ where you get the chance to work with professional dancers. Mentioning something like this could really attract and interest more people. The activities are also made to seem exciting, by using alliteration such as ‘packed programme’, this really emphasizes that these activities may be a once in a life time opportunity and you should grab them.
Furthermore the ‘p’ sound in ‘packed programme’ makes the phrase sound energetic like the activities they are trying to promote. If you decide to do the activities but you don’t know anyone, the article states that this is a perfect chance to make new friends. This is a good thing because you might meet people who have the same interests as you, so this is another attractive thing.
Moreover teenagers and young kids can get bored quite easily so this is something

You probably recognize the picture above from Wikipedia because it is a portrait of the twelve Olympians of the most famous and influential civilization, the Greeks. Yet, the Greeks also have a famous counterpart, the Romans. Both have left their marks on present day culture and have respectfully done so. It is silly, though, to believe that they did not "borrow" some of each others ideas. The Greeks, in fact, were so far ahead that many cultures emulated their findings; the most popular and similar were the Romans. The Romans obtained many of their mythological views, art, and architecture from the Greeks in order to expand their empire.…

Shakespeare did a great job in making the historical ruler Julius Caesar and the Shakespeare Julius sound like the same person. Julius Caesar full name is Gaius Julius Caesar and his parents are Aurelia and Gaius Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar was one of the most memorable rulers of ancient Rome. He helped all the nobles get their own land and jobs by redistributing everything. I believe he helped the nobles because his family was always wealthy so he knew how the nobles felt. In 85 BCE, Caesar’s father pasted way. A couple years after his father died he had gotten married had children and been a part of a military legate, where he was awarded the civic crown.…

Nearly half (47%) of all illegal border crossings into the U.S. occur along the Arizona border with Mexico. As the state with the most illegal crossings t the United States/Mexico border, its remote and dangerous deserts are the entry point for thousands of Mexicans and Central Americans(Cooper). The non-native citizen population has grown rapidly in this area. Arizona had an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in April 2010, a figure that had increased fivefold since 1990.(Cooper). Illegal immigration, like most other issues has an upside and a downside. On the upside, there is a steady workforce for the labor industry (agriculture, construction, etc.), and the service industry (restaurants). The agricultural industry in Arizona is comprised of 59% immigrants, the construction industry is made up of 27% workers not native to the United States, and the service industry is populated by 22% foreign born employees. On the downside, illegal immigration brings its share of problems including crime, poverty, uncirculated funds (pay not reintroduced into the economy in which it was originated), and an overburden on social services. It is the latter that sparked the now controversial Senate Bill 1070 that effectively closes the border to all but the few lucky enough to obtain legal status.…

In her 1963 book, A Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan wrote, “As she made the beds, shopped for groceries, matched slipcover material, ate peanut butter sandwiches with her children, chauffeured Cub Scouts and Brownies, lay beside her husband at night—she was afraid to ask even of herself the silent question—‘Is this all?’”1. As a result of the constantly glaring of the classic “housewife” from magazines such as Good Housekeeping and members of the government such as Governor Adlai Stevenson, women in the 50s were expected to maintain a reserved lifestyle, which led to lonely dissatisfaction and an internal yearning for a different routine.…
