What is Hazard and Disaster ?
Difference between Hazard & Disaster

Hazard:
A hazard is a situation which poses a level of threat to life, health, property or environment and is a state of emergency. Hazards are defined as “Phenomena that pose a threat to people, structures, or economic assets and which may cause a disaster. They could be either manmade or naturally occurring in our environment and hazards are something that has potential to lead to a disaster. .
Natural hazards are things like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, tsunamis, floods and drought - any physical event that happens naturally. They are caused by changes in the atmosphere, the earth’s upper and under surface or the sea or other body of water. They can happen quickly, called a rapid onset hazard, or build up gradually, called a slow onset hazard. We can’t stop natural hazards.
Disaster
A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to cope using its own resources. So a disaster is the impact of a natural or human-made hazard that negatively affects society or environment and a disaster is when something tragic happens and leads to a number of victims.
(VULNERABILITY+ HAZARD ) / CAPACITY = DISASTER

Difference between Hazard and Disaster:
Hazards are something that has potential to lead to a disaster.
These hazards are termed as disasters when they cause widespread destruction of property and human lives.
The difference between a hazard and a disaster is that a hazard is a part of the natural environment, whereas a disaster occurs only when a hazard and development intersect and significant damage to the built environment results. Disasters often follow natural hazards. A disaster's severity depends on how much impact a hazard has on society and the environment.

A hazard is defined as something which has the potential to kill or cause harm. However a hazard is only a risk to people if they are exposed to it. This is when a hazard can cause disasters. For example, a volcano is only a hazard if the population comes in contact with the consequences of its activity. Hazards and their likeliness to become disasters can depend on many different factors, for example how developed a country exposed to the hazard is, the size of the population exposed or the size and scale of the disaster. Volcanoes are a particularly abundant risk to humans as they have many associated hazards, but the risk they pose differs around the world.…

Most hazardous processes are primarily geologic processes. Geologic processes effect every human on the Earth all of the time, but are most noticeable when they cause loss of life or property. If the process that poses the hazard occurs and destroys human life or property, then a natural disaster has occurred. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis are classified as hazardous only because they negatively affect human beings. In fact, there would be no natural disasters if it were not for humans. Without humans these are only natural events. Anthropogenic hazards occur as a result of human interaction with the environment. These human interactions can further be classified as…

Uncertainty, lack of organization, destruction, chaos, and fear. All of these negative effects of various hazards can be decreased in part by adequately planning. According to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), there are three types of hazards. These three types of hazards that you can prepare for are natural, technological, and human caused hazards. Natural hazards are emergencies caused by forces extraneous to man in the elements of the natural environment. Natural hazards cannot be managed and are often interrelated. Natural hazards can occur and cause no damage to humans or the built environment; however, when a hazard and development intersect, significant damage to the built environment occurs, creating a natural disaster. Some examples of a natural hazard would be an avalanche, animal disease outbreak, drought, or an earthquake. Technological events are emergencies that involve materials created by man and that pose a unique hazard to the general public and environment. The jurisdiction needs to consider events that are caused by accident (e.g. mechanical failure, system breakdowns) or result from an emergency caused by another hazard (e.g flood, storm) or are caused intentionally. Some examples of a technological hazard would be an airplane crash, dam failure, a mining accident, or hazardous materials release. Human caused disasters are created by man, either intentionally or by accident. Examples of this type…

A Distinction Environmental hazards are caused by people’s use of dangerous environments. A large part of environmental hazards is caused by human behaviour, namely the failure to recognise the potential hazard and act accordingly. Hence the term “natural hazard” is not a precise description, as natural hazards are not just the result of “natural” events.…

A natural disaster is the effect of a natural hazard (e.g., flood, tornado, hurricane, volcanic eruption, earthquake, heatwave, or landslide). It leads to financial, environmental or human losses. The resulting loss depends on the vulnerability of the affected population to resist the hazard, also called their resilience. if these disasters continues it would be a great danger for the earth.[1] This understanding is concentrated in the formulation: "disasters occur when hazards meet vulnerability."[2] Thus a natural hazard will not result in a natural disaster in areas without vulnerability, e.g. strong earthquakes in uninhabited areas.[3] The term natural has consequently been disputed because the events simply are not hazards or disasters without human involvement.[4] A concrete example of the division between a natural hazard and a natural disaster is that the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was a disaster, whereas earthquakes are a hazard. This article gives an introduction to notable natural disasters, refer to the list of natural disasters for a comprehensive listing.…

A hazard is a forceful natural or man-made event with the potential to adversely affect human life and property, or the environment. Natural hazards are a normal consequence of the internal and external forces that are constantly transforming the earth (e.g., earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, etc.). Man-made hazards arise from deliberate human actions (e.g., war, terrorism, humanitarian emergencies, etc.) that are usually predictable and preventable. They may also arise from the unforeseen or unexpected consequences of human development and technology (e.g., nuclear weapons, industrial accidents, etc.).…
