Representation Of Love In Hamlet
Throughout Shakespeare's Hamlet, Love plays an important role. Love causes certain things to happen, sometimes not always good things. Love causes Ophelia and Hamlet to go crazy, but also brought back good memories. Hamlet went crazy and went on a rampage about how love made him mad. Ophelia brought up the fact that Hamlet promised her love. Ophelia went crazy and had started to sing songs about Hamlet. When Hamlet was in the graveyard, Yorick reminded Hamlet of his childhood. He had always looked up to Yorick like a father. Love is the most relevant topic throughout the play.

In Act 3, scene 1, it is revealed that Ophelia is misled by Hamlet. Hamlet never loved Ophelia, and he never will. He goes crazy, saying Ophelia should go to a nunnery. “God has given you one face and you make yourselves another. You jug and amble, and you lisp. You nickname God’s creatures and make your wantonness your ignorance. Go to, I’ll no more on ‘t. It hath …show more content…
At this point in the play, Ophelia sings about her love towards Hamlet. “Tomorrow is Saint Valentine’s day,/All in the morning betime,/And I a maid at your window,/To be your window,/To be your valentine,/Then up he rose, and danned his clothes,/And dupped the chamber door./Let in the maid/Never departed more”(4.5 31-39). It is obvious that Ophelia is waiting for Hamlet to turn sane and love her. If Hamlet didn’t use her for love, then Ophelia would have married him. Love does not only bring sadness to a lover but towards someone you love in a different way. When Ophelia found out her father, Polonius was dead,she couldn't imagine it and fell apart. “He is dead and gone, lady,/He is dead and gone,/At his head a grass-green turf,/At his heels a stone./Oh, ho!/(4.5 26-30). Ophelia is heartbroken and can’t believe it happened. She loved Polonius and because of that love, Ophelia won’t be able to love Hamlet ever
