The main parts of a typewriter are the paper table, the carriage release lever, the platen, the type bars, the ribbon spool, and the keyboard. The rectangle shaped platform at the top of the typewriter is called a paper table or a carriage. The paper table and paper finger, a small piece of metal, help make the paper on the letter printing machine secure. The carriage release lever is a lever located on the left of the typewriter that shifts the paper table to the right to start a new line. Additionally, right below the paper table is a large roller made of rubber called a platen. The paper wraps around the platen, which makes the paper secure, so it can be easier for the type bars to print on it. The type bars push against a ribbon held together by spools, which then leaves a print on the paper. A ribbon spool is strip of fabric, commonly polymer that is covered in a pigment. Finally, the keyboard consists of keys that have letters and punctuation marks. The typewriter had the first ever keyboard where the keys were put in the QWERTY order. All of these different parts helped make the typewriter a modern invention in the…
