    | How has HSBC adapted its global strategy to operate in China, both before and after China’s WTO accession? Answer: Prior to the WTO accession negotiations, China’s banking industry operated as a cog in China’s centrally planned economy. The banks adhered to directed lending practices from the government and in turn created some of China’s most successful enterprises, but also supported thousands of other inefficient and unprofitable state-owned enterprises. This practice left state commercial banks with massive amounts of debt that was largely unrecoverable and hordes of nonperforming loans. In 1865, HSBC was founded to finance the growing trade between Europe, India, and China. HSBC rapidly expanded by opening agencies and branches across the globe, but maintained a distinct focus on China and the Asia-Pacific region. By the 1880s, the bank issued banknotes and held government funds in Hong Kong, and also helped manage British government accounts in China, Japan, Penang, and Singapore. After World War I and II, HSBC turned to dramatic expansion through acquisitions and alliances in order to diversify. The bank moved its headquarters in 1993 to London from Hong Kong and continued its global acquisition strategy. In December 2001, China finally acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO). A number of policies were immediately implemented such as foreign banks were allowed to conduct foreign currency business without any market access restrictions. Foreign banks were allowed to conduct local currency business with foreign-invested enterprises. With its longstanding presence in China, HSBC was among the most well-positioned financial institutions to take advantage of China’s market opening. HSBC is an institution that actively seeks new opportunities; HSBC was the first foreign bank to invest in China in 2001. In 2002, HSBC announced it had taken a 10 percent stake and an additional 9.91 percent in 2005 in Ping An Insurance,…

Here I tried to focus the bank’s history of origination, its mission and vision, major departments and business units and major products and services. Then, in Part 3, I said something about the methodology of the report. How the data have been collected, how the study has been conducted. Next, comes chapter four. The module of SME is the most vital part if this report, where I gave my concentration. Here I focused on SME products, the terms and conditions of giving SME loan, enterprise selection criteria and documentation. Then talked about the procedure of SME loan in Part 5 where I delineated the sanction, disbursement, repayment and closing of SME loan.…

Microfinance in the form of different informal institutions in Tanzania was provided through different means such as “Upatu” and lending between friends either at work or between family members. The formal microfinance services in Tanzania started in the early nineties and we can say it is still at its infant stage. Because of this infancy, the competition in microfinance industry is still low and the clients were expected to be loyal to their institutions. These MFIs have not applied any strategic management techniques to their businesses and as the results suffer some symptoms that are linked to their general performance. Among these symptoms are low repayment rate, high portfolio at risk and high client drop outs rate. Client drop outs rate as one indicator of MFI performance is the main aim of this study. This being the case, MFIs have used different resources in their businesses to make sure they achieve their goals either socially or economically. These resources include clients for those offering different products such as savings, insurance, money transfers and loans. But for those offering only loans we call this resource borrower and it is through the borrower the MFIs can achieve their social and economic mission. As the time goes after the borrower accessed the MFI service, the borrower may decide to quit kindly or sadly depending on the reasons behind the move. Borrower or client moving out the MFI service is termed as client exits or drop outs and it has cost implications to the institutions in concerned.…
