I agree with your answer to number 4 and I like how you put it. I think that it was a huge battle to gain racial equality between Congress and President Johnson and Congress had to keep passing acts to make sure they weren't letting Johnson do whatever he wanted as president, setting a precedence for all presidents that follow. Even after getting him impeached they still lost ground on racial equality in the south.…

Upon entering office in 1963, Lyndon B. Johnson was faced with a number of vast challenges; specifically, a divided society and a sobering poverty rate among both whites and minorities. Yet, Johnson took said issues in stride, deciding to take action against both domestic discrimination and economic misfortune. In his term, Johnson would pass a number of bills that set the standard for today’s social welfare systems, in addition to creating a foundation for the civil rights movement, allowing progress for years to come, truly helping the United States in becoming a “Great Society”. Johnson aimed to address issues by educating the population, giving the poor and minority demographics access to a better future and a stable career path. Moreover,…

Johnson had a heart for those in need and acted on it. When in conversation with Senator Richard Russell of Georgia, Johnson stated that he was willing to give up his opportunity to become the president as long as the Civil Rights Act was signed. As you can see, Johnson cared more about doing what was right than winning the…

The Sarah Bartmaan video today had some very shocking mistreatment of African Americans. I don’t understand how Europeans could justify their actions of treating another human being like that. Also to know that people still went to see her pickled remains for almost a century after her death showed that it was more than one person that contributed to this. People thought that African Americans were a different species and weren’t even human. We can also see this in our society today. I grew up outside the Bronx, and my school was mainly comprised of African American and Hispanic people. My cousins that lived just outside the city in the suburbs, went schools were the population was 90% white. It is almost like our races still keep us separate…

From what I have gathered from the reading of your forum, President Johnson seems to be more self controlling than demanding and arrogant. Sometimes peoples in leadership aim for effort rather than perfection because they tend to focus more on the less importance rather than the primarily importances; however the end result causes them to lose out because of their ethic attempt of failure for not trying. It is okay to high self confident, but not too much confident.…

After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson found it upon himself to prove to the people that he was going to be a reputable president. In order to do this, he proceeded to finish JFK’s work and passed two very important pieces of legislation. Starting with the Civil Rights Bill as well as The Civil Rights Act, which banned discrimination on race and gender in jobs and seized segregation in all public facilities. LBJ implemented his agenda after this, pushing a war on poverty which at this time almost one-quarter of all American families were living under-according to Thematic Window: The great Society- he also wanted to end inequality, improve education, revive cities, and protect the environment. His agenda became…

On July 2, 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson used pens to change the lives of every American citizen. Before his presidency, Johnson was a guy who lived in a town where everyone thought that segregation was right. He thought the opposite. L.B.J was teaching to Mexican American children who were poor in a town called Cotulla. From the beginning Johnson thought that it was right if everyone was equal. Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because he thought that it was the right thing to do. If principle decisions are based on strongly-held beliefs, then Cotulla Teaching(Doc A), Ignoring Southern Reaction(Doc C), and Change of Heart(Doc E) show that President Johnson was motivated to sign by his principles.…

Johnson once said “Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and it must be taken one step at a time”. Johnson was a president who had his own priorities and the priorities of others in his mind at all times. The war for civil rights was at its peak and before the election Johnson was noticeably against civil rights until one day he changed his mind. What forced Johnson to change his mind about civil rights, and why did he sign the civil rights act of 1964? Did Johnson have any personal motives for signing it, or did he do it for the people?…

The racist Southerner Johnson was charged with the reconstruction of the South and the extension of civil rights and suffrage to former black slaves.
