Religion and Terrorist
Shingo Yamane
Religion and Terrorists I didn 't know the word “terrorist” until September 11th in 2001. That day is the day when people all over the world couldn 't believe their eyes. Who had ever seen the moment when two airplanes crashed into the towers? It was the very shocking moment. I just came home from school and turned on TV, and then all the channels were filled up with the emergency news of that unexpected incident. Even though I was only nine years old on that time, I was old enough to understand how unusual it was and how terrible it was. I’m not sure whether the world has been going to a right direction or a wrong direction since then, but I’m sure the world has changed greatly since then. I haven’t had any week that I didn 't hear the word “terrorist” since 9/11; without fail, something about terror is happing right now somewhere in the world, so I think that everybody cannot ignore this issue, and that everybody is related to this issue in some way. Yet the incident was big enough to be spread all over the world at once, not many people see it by an outsider’s view. People, especially American, tend to condemn it only as the tragedy brought by the terrorists, like saying, “we are the victims of the tragedy, they are the terrorists who killed our family.” Yes, I think it is hard for them to think about it as an outsider because they were actually involved in that tragedy. In fact, about 3000 people died in the attack. But about me, of course, I feel bad to people who died in the attack, and I don 't think things terrorists did was right. As though they killed many Americans, we got to consider it deeply out of emotion to understand sufficiently. That’s why I took this topic. I will be able to research 9/11 and consider it honestly based on the fact, because I will not close my eyes at something American don 't want to see. As an outsider from Japan, I look it back and analyze it. To analyze how religion was related to 9/11, I want to start

How could this terrible thing even ever happen? For this to happen is like the chances for me to win the lottery. How wasn’t the US military or air force able to prevent this from happening? It just very depressing to find out how many people who died from this incident. But I cannot really feel the moment that most people had because I was only two years old, but I really can feel the intensity and soreness that most people feel about 9/11. Learning more about 9/11, I really wonder how the security is advanced now than twelve years ago when 9/11 happened. Founding out about 9/11, I really got to see how the nation got so much closer after 9/11 happened, and that it didn’t matter about your race or age. Many lives were changed after this dramatic incident happened. This incident makes me think differently now than I did before, about situations that happens in my life.…

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 have indeed affected the lives of Americans all over the United States. Everyone is aware that the events that took place on September 11th 2001 were a series of horrific tragedies, but they also brought a sense of unity amongst the nation, making Americans, in a sense, more patriotic. Along with this feeling of American pride and ‘standing as one’, Americans suddenly found something to unite against. While our military and government started a war in the Middle East, it seemed as if it became normalized to target anyone who shared the characteristics, religion, or background of al-Qaeda, those who were actually responsible for the September…

Secular terror is anything that does not have to do with religion; however, religious tactics can be used to get ahead in secular terrorist organizations. Religious terror is based on the protecting, converging, and maintaining beliefs of a religion upheld by a religious terrorist group. Although different tactics are carried out by each different group of terror, they have some core features in common, such as emotionally evocative symbols, rituals, and myths (Alcorta, Phillips, Sosis, 2012). With their differences and similarities, the question at hand is which terror is greater? Religious terror is a greater threat because it is more widespread and brutal than secular terror. Secular terror remains a threat but not as big a threat as religious terror.…

I was at school when the 9/11 incidents occurred. I was about six years old and in Kindergarten. I remember my dad picking me up from school, he was sad and confused looking. I specifically remember riding home in the car and my dad turning up the radio and intently listening to it. That day I did not quite know what had happened or how it would affect me, but now I can truly grasp what happened that day. Since September 11, 2001, the United States has changed in many different ways. This was the day that everyone found out that the United States was not invincible. 9/11 is like a scar on our country; America has healed, but the mark will always be there. After that, the United…

All over the country, there has been exceptional protest against the building of the mosque. Andrea Peyser writes, “There are many questions about the mosque. But just one answer: move it away,” (Peyser). Ever since the tragedy of 9/11, nearly all Americans have gained the understanding that Muslims are harmful to the United States; however, Americans have failed to draw the distinction between Islamic extremists that caused this terrorist attack and simple followers of Islam.…
