Relationship Between Private and Public Police
Relationship between Private and Public Police
When you look at both public police and private police they have the same goal in mind, safety, protection, and an overall good relationship with the public and the people that they protect. Public police are there to help prevent crime from happening, to provide victims with assistance, and to maintain a relationship by being interactive within their community. Private police are normally responsible for securing the asset’s and property of a private organization or a company.
There has not been a lot of research done over the past few years about how public police and private police feel about each other. In some cases if you ask the private police they would say that they do not feel like law enforcement officer respect them as police officials. Private police do not have the same authority as public police officers. Private police feel that when it comes to law enforcement they are more concerned with making arrest and less concerned about preventing crime in their neighborhoods. They also feel that police officers solicit information that need from security agencies but they do not do it in the correct manor. In some cases public police officers say that private security is not professional like they are. Police officers are there to make arrests and to make sure people get prosecuted where they feel that private security does not do that. They feel that private security is client based and they are very reluctant to prosecutePublic police and private police have a lot of similarities as well as a lot of differences and this distinction can often be blurred. The private police look and can behave like the public police do. When they describe their function or purpose it is a lot like the responsibilities and activities of the two. Even though there are differences they tend to mirror each other to a certain extent. One of the main things that private security does is security alarms, investigative services and they work privately for people or clients. Security officers are usually in the front line of the public interaction. They are used in crowd control, sporting events, and school events Public officers feel that the private security try to step in do their job. They feel that it should be up to them to investigate crimes that have been committed. Police officers have to obtain a higher level of education therefore they feel like they should have all the authority. They also earn more than a security officer does. In a lot of cases police officers have to put their lives in danger to serve and protect the people in their neighborhoods. They have to go up against some very dangerous criminals therefore they feel that what they do is more important that the work that private security does (Li, 2008).
When it comes to both private security and public police officers I feel that they all have the same goal in mind. It is just that they clash with each other when it comes to whose job is more important and whose job is less important. There are always going to be some circumstances that the private and public security may have to work together. I feel like in special cases where they should have to they need to learn to get along and get the problem or case solved.
Overall I feel like public police officers and private security’s relationship is a positive situation. Even though they do not get along personally, they still have that same goal in mind. Weather they are out their patrolling the streets, or investigating a crime even protecting a person from harm they still make sure that their job is done correctly and efficiently. It is their job to make sure that the people that they are protecting feel safe and they feel comfortable when they have to be around the officers. No matter what the situation is the goal is to serve and to protect the community that they live in. Criminals are everywhere and in today’s society we have people that are willing to try anything in order to get what they want. It does not matter if they have to steal it, take, or even kill a person to get it. The more security the world has the better no matter if they are private security or public security.

Private officers do not work for us; but they do offer their services for corporations, they basically focus on the corporation that hired them. Private police has three times more than public police does. The private police care less about the due process, civil rights, and the public safety. “Private police dwells on the protection, immediate deterrence, and commercial enforcement”. (Private Security and the Law, 2004).…

The methods and legal limitations vary by the agency toward completing these goals. Public police attain more authority toward making arrests and detaining possible suspects, but they are under control by the government and the laws. The guards are powerless in certain situations without requesting the public police at the scene to assist with arrests, questioning, and detaining an individual, but the government and the laws do not limit private security as much as public police. The differences make the agencies useful and essential for most situations. The public police can concentrate on other aspects of public protection without spreading the agency thin to protect retail properties, private communities, and public special events because of the use of private security. The two agencies complement each other and possess frustrations. Individuals in both agencies work well, and the agencies can complete a wider range of goals when working together. Both agencies possess a love and hate…

The United States government and the police must have a relationship because the laws and how the American criminal justice system is set up and ran. The rights of the people are established by the government and in most cases have to be carried out and enforced by local police. The local police vary from size throughout the United States. As the government set out to make new laws, it is the police who have to make sure that laws are being followed. The police also have a professional obligation to the public and the first component of the Criminal Justice system is the police, and different levels of policing focus on different levels of crime. The United States government has policing on the federal, state, and local level. A local law enforcement agency can run from a huge local police department to a small local police department depending on the number of people living in the community or jurisdiction of that police department. Next, would be policing on the state level, this would be your state troopers. The state police are mostly seen on the highways, but they have other duties that go beyond jus t regulating our highway. Last would be federal police agencies, federal agencies have the responsibility to enforce the laws that are only on the federal level, but unlike state and local police, federal agencies have nationwide jurisdiction. Overall the Government makes the laws for these different police agencies to enforce, the relationship between the government and police seems to be an up and down situation. The police system is not perfect and at times those imperfections in the system show because of this it makes it hard for policing around the United States. Throughout the years because of the corruption and wrong doings in some police agencies for the most part the government has to take a neutral stance in the way they follow up on police misconduct and wrong doing within…

) Police are a “body of officers representing the civil authority of government.” (Banton) Police are responsible for maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing and investigating any criminal activities. The existence of American law enforcement has been around since the first Europeans landed in North America. America inherited much of its government policies from Great Britain. “The first Europeans who landed on our shores, found a strange and wondrous new land, inhabited by strange and wondrous people. The newcomers had all they could do to establish themselves and to protect themselves from those who did not wish to share their land. Thus, policing was the responsibility of all able-bodied men, and, of course,…

The relationship between the U.S. government and policing throughout the United States lies within the governments control over instituting new laws that states must follow. Although Congress and the Supreme Court establish “minimum national standards” and enact laws that police must follow there is often a limit to how much of an affect it has on policing. The law passed by the government, or verdicts passed by the Supreme Court in particular often set guidelines and can be interpreted differently. Basically the government pushes policing in the direction that it feels that it needs to be going. There are also government provisions or funds given to certain agencies to turn them in the direction desired. Most of these funds come with the stipulation that certain goals must be achieved for them to obtain or keep the funding. The government also can regulate and discipline police that are being unethical or lawful in their duties.…
