According to the history books Christopher Columbus was the Italian explorer who discovered America. However, the truth is he did not discover America, when he traveled to North America there were already millions of people living here. The fact is Christopher Columbus never set foot on our shores. On October 12, 1492 Christopher Columbus arrived in the Bahamas, he also reached the coasts of what is now Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic he also travelled to Central and South America. Christopher Columbus also never flew a Spanish flag in North America. Now the first European settler believed to have sailed to North America is a man named Leif Eriksson and seemed to have sailed west 500 years prior Christopher Columbus.…

Most people who lived in America knows about the story about Christopher Columbus, who found America in 1492 by accident. Where he led his three ships to out of the Spanish port of Palos on August 3, 1492. He was mainly looking forward to sail all the way to Asia, where they had goods such as riches of gold, pearls, and spice waiting for him when he reaches the west. Even then, he never actually discovered the Americas. There was always the fact that there were millions of people already living on that land, and also, about 492 years before Columbus, Leif Eriksson made the crossing to Newfoundland in 1000 A.D.…
On August 3, 1492, Columbus and his crew of ninety men along with two other ships set sail from Spain out across the ocean in search of a spice trail to the East. On the morning of October 12, 1492 they landed on the shore of what is now Cuba. It wasn't until 300 years later in 1792 that Columbus was actually honored in America. But every second Monday in October is met with a series of celebrations and protests regarding this man who is said to have discovered America…
Early in the Americans, the Red, White, and Black came together and colluded. The Red, being the Indians, were enslaved, making them a part of this collusion. “Including the domestic labor that native wives could provide; in some cases intermarriage was a form of labor recruitment.”(22). The Blacks, or Africans, were brought to America solely as slaves for the Europeans. The Whites, are the ones who had enslaved both the Indians and the Africans. “As early as 1502, Europeans settlers began to import slaves from Africa” (23). Also they were the most important factor, because without them, there would have been no collusion. The Europeans were the ones that started colonizing the New World and bringing in slaves to help do so.…
Although varying somewhat in origins and character, all these colonies exhibited plantation agriculture, indentured and slave labor, a tendency toward strong economic and social hierarchies, and a pattern of widely scattered, institutionally weak settlements. Theme: The English hoped to follow Spain's example of finding great wealth in the New World, and that influenced the financing and founding of the early southern colonies. The focus on making the southern colonies profitable shaped colonial decisions, including choice of crops and the use of indentured and slave labor. This same focus also helped create economic and cultural ties between the early southern colonies and English settlements in the West Indies. Theme: The early southern colonies encounters with Indians and African slaves established the patterns of race relations that would shape the North American experience; in particular, warfare and reservations for the Indians and lifelong slave codes for African…
Prior to European exploration, there were already many other explorations going around the world. For example, we have the Vikings of which people have theorized that they indeed discovered America centuries before Columbus actually did. There is one further piece of evidence that displays even more people discovered America before Columbus: Chinese pottery that were not indigenous to the people at the time. However, even though Columbus did not discover the Americas first, European Exploration still had a more immense impact within their world and our modern world today.…
In 1492, Christopher Columbus ‘discovered’ America: land already inhabited by Native Americans. During this period, called The Age of Exploration, Europeans voyaged across the Atlantic Ocean for gold, God, and glory. History textbooks should include both the positive and negative consequences following Columbus’ arrival to the Americas.…
The narrative concerning the exploration of the North American continent was a little bit of Eu-ropean ethnocentrism, as well as a reflection of historical reality. According to the book, “First Peoples”, just about everyone from monks to visitors from outer space “discovered” America much earlier than Columbus. For example: archaeological evidence points to the Vikings being in Greenland, Newfoundland and Labrador back in 1000 AD. However, due to relations with the Native population that were mired in violence the colonies that were created by the Vikings were short lived. By the end of the 15th century, Europe became the dominant force regarding globe expansion that reached into Africa, America, Asia and Australia.…
Diseases and slavery went hand and hand. The Europeans brought over diseases that they were immune to. Since the Native Americans weren’t used to the diseases from Europe, they quickly caught and spread it everywhere. Many of the Indians died because they weren’t used to things like this. When Slavery was brought into the Americas, Many Africans were forced to lay on top of each other causing the spread of disease on the long boat rides there.…
In 1492, Africans along with the Europeans and the Indians, created the Columbian Exchange after Christopher Columbus discovered them. The Africans didn't have a choice on whether they wanted to come to the New World or not, they were shipped here on tiny boats and due to the death of the Indians the Europeans forced them to do the hard labor without any pay. They worked in farms and/or plantations for their “masters” who provided them with limited or no rights and they lived in horrible conditions. In return, the Africans received different varieties of crops, for example, potatoes, corn, beans, tomatoes, and many other crops. Europeans also tried to convert both Africans and Indians to Christianity and succeeded.…
Europeans originally enslaved the Native Americans. The Native Americans, however, did not like this and fought back, ran away, or died of disease. The colonists, in a panic, decided that they had to replace the lost workforce. The colonies turned to Africans. This is where the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade originated. Unlike most slavery occurrences, The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade was different because it was racial slavery. Only Africans were…
