Regionalism
The Boston Celtics were playing the Miami Heat on March 19, 2013. Jeff Green one of the Celtics forwards was having a hell of a game that night and scored 20 points in the first quarter. The Celtics were leading the heat by a total of 10 points after the first and from their performance in the first were projected to win the game. Then all of a sudden Paul Pierce was down on the ground in agonizing pain by the looks of his facial expression. Paul was carried off of the court by his fellow teammates and was obviously seriously injured; however, the game played on and it was a hard fought battle until the end. The Boston Celtics were projected to win the game by the aggressiveness and pace they were playing at but it wasn’t good enough for the win which many had expected. Such as Mrs. Mallard’s freedom from her husband as he had died in a dramatic train accident but did he actually die? Is Mrs. Mallard’s husband actually alive as it is portrayed in the short story “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin. Two types of irony are presented in the short story The Story of an Hour, situational and dramatic irony. Situational irony is irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected. Dramatic irony is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play or story. Situational irony is expressed through Mrs. Mallard’s actions to her husband’s death in the train accident. When she first heard the news of her husband’s death Mrs. Mallard “wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment”(188). It appeared to everyone that she was very sad and upset so she went upstairs to her bedroom; although, she was flowing with excitement. It is natural for a person to be very upset after losing a loved one, so they all understood what was happening. They didn’t however know that once she got into her room she was filled with excitement realizing that finally she was free at last from her husband; she just didn’t know what to do or say.

In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Peyton Fahrquar is sentenced to death by hanging by the federal military during the civil war for attempting to burn a bridge they were controlling.
