Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

Physician assistants are often one of the most misperceived health professions, for many believe that they are medical assistants, those who do routine clinical and clerical tasks, rather than a licensed medical professional. A physician assistant, also known as a PA, “practices medicine on teams with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare workers” (Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS], n.d.). The duties of a physician assistant include: take/review patients’ medical histories, examine patients, order/interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose, provide treatment, and prescribe medication. However, physician assistant duties and the extent of supervision by physicians can vary between states. “Physician assistants work in all areas of medicine, including primary care ad family medicine, emergency medicine,…

As the role of the medical assistant, I would want to comfort the patient and answer any questions that he/she may have. In this case the patient is feeling abandoned, so I will explain that we were letting him/her rest and fully awaken before we let anyone in to see him/her. I would also let the patient know that his/her health is important and that the doctor will be in shortly to explain more. Also that the doctor will help him/her understand what he/she went through before he let the family into explain to them how they can help with intestinal cancer.…

When I researched the role of Physician Assistant it stated “Physician Assistants take patients histories, perform routine diagnostic studies, assist in emergency medicine, monitor patient progress and manage therapeutic plans”. (Quinnipiac.edu ) What this description does not tell you is that you have to have a desire and love for people. You must always put their best interests forward. Whether they are at their best or worst health of their life. You must always have a positive attitude and promote the best outcomes for the people/patients that are in your care. Those are attributes that can not be taught, that has to live inside of you.…

I believe one of the hardest aspects of being a nurse is having to deal with a patient’s death, especially if it’s unexpected, and you have grown close to them. Although I am not a nurse, I do know the pain of losing someone dear to me, just as every individual does. As a new nurse, of course, it would be difficult to handle a sudden and bloody patient death. As of right now I don’t know how I would handle it because I have not had to face such a situation. Dealing with a patient’s sudden death would be really emotional, but I would try to move on from the experience. I usually try to make light of a depressing situation. When I have issues or something on my mind, I talk to friends about how I am feeling. I think a way to get pass through…
