Reflective Essay: English 2 Pre-AP Class
Throughout my high school career I’ve struggled a lot with my grades, however I’ve managed to maintain at least a B average and at some points a C average. There was no specific classes that I struggled with it was just the honest truth that I was more interested in the social aspect of high school rather than the academic part. My freshman year I struggled with Biology 1P and Geometry where I completed the year with a C in both classes. Sophomore year the class that gave me problems was English 2 Pre AP, the reason it gave me so many problems was because it was my first year in a pre AP class and I didn’t know the tempo of the class, along with the difficulty of the curriculum. The reason that I think this is because during high school I’ve never received any disciplinary steps or referrals. Before coming to high school I would get in trouble for talking during class, but when I came to LHS and I joined the NJROTC program my behavior and outlook on discipline changed. The program made me realize that when I misbehave or disrespect someone it’s not only me who suffers from my actions; Commander taught us cadets that being respectful isn’t just a character that we should possess,but that it’s a way of life. While being in this program for the last 4 years has been amazing, the greatest moment for me was when I became a role model/commander for other cadets. From then on I saw that I needed to set a good example for all the cadets that looked up to me, during that time I created a saying that I now live by and that I constantly tell all my cadets, “When someone is rude or disrespectful to you, be the politest person you can be and kill them with compliments.” As contradictory as that statement sounds it makes a lot of sense, that saying is my interpretation of the most common statement known in school, “Treat others how you want to be
