Reflective Account Values
The first part of this Reflective Account describes what influences and events in my life have helped to develop my Personal Values.
My grandparents taught me most of my basic ‘Personal Values’. I learned from an early age how to be polite, have good manners and respect my elders as failure to do so would result in getting sent to bed early. In those days I did not have a television in my room so in my eyes this was the ultimate punishment! They were not deeply religious people; my grandmother attended church every Sunday and took me to Sunday school. At the age of twelve she gave me the choice as whether to attend or not. I did not attend but she still taught me the moral values of respecting myself, my body and how a female should/ should not behave in public and at home. As today’s culture climate is changing towards how some young women behave e.g. children to several partners, going out barely clothed and getting themselves into all sorts of situations, I feel she was perhaps right in her teachings but when I say this to some of my nieces they tend to tell me I’m a bit too old fashioned and they’re glad I’m not their mother. I do not have any specific religious values and I would not disagree or agree with anybody else’s views, I hold the value of everybody being entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. I have passed all of these values onto my own child over the years and feel proud when people say what a polite and thoughtful man he is.
A value that changed as I got older was one of ‘First Impressions’. Again, my grandfather (who was a policeman) taught me that first impressions count but an experience in a local cafe showed me that this was untrue. An elderly gentleman who was often drunk and smelly used to come into the cafe and nobody, including myself would go near or speak to him. This day the only seat available to him was the one next to me. He started talking to me and I was astounded to realize that he was a very intelligent man, he was

I started my shift at 7:15 am. My work clothes are comfortable and unrestrictive; my footwear is flat, sensible and offers protection to my feet and ankles. When I arrive to the service user’s home, I knock on the door and wait to be let in either by one of the service user’s or by a work colleague. Once inside I greet the service user, if they are awake. I then head to the sleep in room, to start verbal handover with my work colleague. After the 15 minute handover, I then check and sign the handover sheet. Check the on call rota, should there be an incident or or accident. Also check the communication book and also check any money and medication, then checking the activity planner. Once the service user wakes, we say hello to each other, and chat for a short period. I encourage them to start their personal care. After, I ask them if they need any support with getting dressed and preparing breakast. The time is now 8:00 so I administrer the morning medication. I always wash my hands before handling food or medication and after assisting with any personal care. After the service user has had their breakfast. I support them with the washing up. I will then encourage the service user to clean their property. I will then support the indiviual in safely cleaning, all ares with correct products. After this I consult with the service user, about their activity plan for the day, if the service user decided to go into town. I ask them how they would prefer to travel, by bus or by personal car.…

When I started my work placement at my setting I was working with my members of staff and manager who told me how to monitor children when they eat and which child cannot eat certain food because of their religion or culture. Before I started to give out the food for the children I had to read the food policies and procedures to know how to serve the food and drink for the children. At my placement I learnt how to monitor the children when they ate and how much they ate, and also about their allergies. I had to monitor how much the children drink and I had to make sure that they drink enough water or milk.…

Most people strive to have a good social standing and the ideas and values they hold on to can often influence their place in society. Society dictates which ideas and values will be accepted and which will be rejected. The values that stick with us the most are usually taught to us as children and help to influence who we become. In "Girl" and "Good People", the characters were raised to have religious values and to behave in a way that will make it easy for them to fit into their society. The main characters in these stories had their values imposed on them at a young age, and helped to shape who they 've become and how they behave in society.…

To always keep our morals true to home, yet stay integrated into the American culture in order to stay prevalent sand become successful. Since I was the youngest of them all, my family is expectations of my cousins were further expected of me, and I feel as though this is an ideal that is consistently set on younger generations in families. We are told to follow the guidelines and uphold to the same standard that our older counterparts were inducted into. The problem with this is that we are machine factory making our generations, as it is easier to create a mold that upholds to the guidelines, regulations and expectations that are expected, opposed to designing a standard that conforms to everyone’s personal…

When a person is born there is a really no end to the learning that occurs from that point forward. There are the learning basics that occur from birth to about eleven years old but after that it’s mostly just learning on your own. Parents do what they can to lead us in the right direction but ultimately it is our own decisions that determine the path of our lives. In my lifetime I personally have made a lot of mistakes and have learned a lot of lessons over the years. Most of those lessons have been learned when I entered my teenage years when I sort of rebelled and worked to find myself. I guess you could say that I had to work extra hard in order to become comfortable in my own skin over the years. I’m really lucky that I have my best friend and my family who cares about me and steer me in the right direction when my life turns sideways. Some people are not as lucky as I have seen all too often in my old group of friends and they seem to be running on a treadmill and going nowhere fast. In order for this particular assignment to be most effective in its entirety, I feel I am forced to be completely honest in this paper and spill my regrets and overall learning experiences.…
