Reflection Paper
Short Critical Reflection Paper * Presnky, in his infamous article “Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants,” coined the notion that the youth are digital natives and the older generation digital immigrants. But I am not sure I agree. I know many teenagers who can download movies, post to Facebook, find a YouTube video and more, but the minute they need to learn something there is a lack of knowledge. Am I wrong here?
I would not agree with Presnky either. I do think teenagers are very familiar with computers and the basic functions of computers. I know many teenagers who know how to operate computers just to log onto Facebook and create a profile or to surf the internet but there is definitely a lack of computer knowledge. I can even use myself as an example. Before taking this course, I have operated computers for many years and know the basics of using a computer. I knew how to use the internet efficiently, I knew how to operate Microsoft Word, and I knew how to download pictures to my computer memory. However, I did not truly understand computer systems or how to operate a computer to the full extent of its capabilities. Now I feel I am more computer literate and have a better understanding of computers. I feel that with the exponential growth of technology, schools will incorporate more computer literacy classes in all grade levels. * What are the advantages and disadvantages of synchronous and asynchronous learning in an online class with students from different professions living all over the United States – just like Ashford?
SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING
Synchronous learning is online classes that meet or log on at a specific date and time. There are many advantages of synchronous learning. Synchronous learning is real time interaction with fellow classmates and the instructor. The students are able to participate in group discussions with each other and this type of learning can make the students feel like they are in a classroom setting.

    * Distance learning can seem daunting at first glance, but once you have taken the time to understand how it works you may find that it can be a better option than the typical brick and mortar school. Distance learning is most recently done via the internet. You can go online and log into the student portal to access your classrooms. This can be done on your own time, whenever you have the availability. Most of your class work is done through asynchronous communication. In other words, your fellow classmates and professors are in different locations and communicate through threaded discussion and email. As part of your course work, you will be required to respond to discussion questions in the main forum. As part of your attendance, you must post at least twice to these discussion questions. In order to make your participation grade you must also respond to other classmates’ posts twice on at least four different days. Your initial response to the discussion question does not count towards your participation grade, so it is very important to keep track of your posts. You will also have required reading to complete and individual assignments due throughout your classes. Your professor will give feedback on your assignments in your individual forum.…

In my opinion, I believe it’s not the teenagers that are constantly with technology, the technology is constantly with them. Technology is a vital part of our lives as it is resourceful; everybody in today’s society has something to do with technology, Young or old. Technology gradually gets better each day with new things that are introduced to the market. It is obvious that Teenagers who spend most of their time on computers lack interest in outdoor activities. Just about anything you can do, has the capability to access technology. “Ages 8-18 spend seven and a half hours a day on the computer according to the New York Times.” Considering there is 24 hours in a day that is a long time to be on the computer. Also, this does not count for all those hours texting or talking on their cell phones, so technology really does seem like it is taking over our lives. The world is at our fingertips, with a computer. He has a fair point.…

Traditionally, distance learning provided instructional programs through the use of prepackaged text, audio, and video courses sent to physically isolated students. These initial programs provided very limited interaction between the student and the instructor. With advances in communication technology and the innovation of the educational community, distance learning has become more interactive between the student and the instructor. The new online programs incorporate student collaboration with other students providing a classroom environment for the asynchronous learning community.…

Many people engage in community service project because they are either forced as a punishment or sentence. Others engage in community service out of Spirit of unselfishness, or a desire to connect with their communities by helping out. For me, it brings a sense of completeness. During the past few semester my team members and I have engage in different projects, Collecting food, clothes and donating to the homeless. In a way I’ve experience working the different organizations and helping the community. But with this particular project, it meant much more then collecting for the disadvantaged, It was about lending a hand and your heart to a community in need.. During my involvement in this fieldwork project I got the opportunity to offer my unconditional assistance for one day in a non-profit making community based project. Firstly, the revolutionary new online class has many great aspects to offer. The working environment to an online calls is what the student makes it out to be. IF the student feels the desire to feel as if they are in a classroom, then it isn't very hard to log into a computer and sit at a desk during class sessions, but if the student desires a more relaxed form of schooling they could just simply slip into a comfortable set of pajamas and have their class sessions in the comfort of their bed. With an online class the environment is self paced, if one chooses to take a break and resume at a later time there would…

The University of Phoenix’s classes that I am taking are all online. I start by accessing the Internet and logging into my ecampus student home page. There I am able to access my classes and see all my needed tools listed under each class. One of the main items you have at the University of Phoenix is your participation grade. You earn that grade by completing discussion questions and participating in discussions in the electronic forum. The electronic forum consists of the Main forum, the Chat room and the Course Materials forum. In those forums you will find all of your discussions. The discussion topics are all threaded discussions so you are able to follow each topic easily. One of the things I like about the electronic forum, is that you receive feedback from not only your professors, but all so your peers. This feedback is helpful for me to learn about the others views as well as mistakes or corrections I need to make. With my busy schedule the part of the University of Phoenix that best suits me is that your course work falls under the Asynchronous communication model. This way I am able to complete my course work at anytime during the week no matter what part of the world I am in. It gives me the flexibility to be able to attend college unlike the traditional Synchronous communication style of schooling.…

While the traditional classes place innumerable constraints on the learner, the concept of online education comes as a breath of fresh air. There are no roll calls to miss and no fines or embarrassment for coming late to the class in online education. Flexibility, malleability and adaptability are some of the chief features of an online course. In a regular class room, a student must learn what the teacher has planned for the day while in online learning, one decides what one would like to study on a particular day or time. Suppose one is quite comfortable with the learning of Robert Frost but happens to be a bit shaky about Wallace Stevens; one can easily spend more time on Wallace Stevens in an online course…

There are a lot of books that have been written over what the different spiritual gifts are and how they are supposed to be used. There are quite a few verses in the New Testament that covers the spiritual gifts and how we are to use them. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 we are told, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the sane God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same spirit.” The Bible…
