Reflection Paper 1
I. Introduction
During the course of this class I have been constantly reminded of God’s power. The character of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit has and is being spelled out to us this semester as well as the attributes of God. Two of these attributes are His Omnipresence and His Omnipotence.
II. Part One
a. Theological Definition
Omnipresence is the property of being everywhere at once. God exists in every place and time. There is nowhere that God isn’t. It is a term usually only reserved for gods and religious deities as it is all-together unfathomable. To be everywhere is a foreign concept to us and seems to in the very least imply that something has split into multiple parts in order to be in different places simultaneously. This is not so with God as He has no “parts”. He is simply everywhere all all times.
b. Biblical Foundation
Scripture tells us that God was present at and continues to be apparent in His creation, but God, himself, is not part of creation. He existed before creation, time, and space (Col 1:17). “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” ( Gen 1:1-2). Scripture also tells us explicably of His Omnipresence. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” (Prov 15:3) “ Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:1-7). These are just a few of many descriptions of His omnipresence in the bible.
c. Practical application:
One of the most comforting verses about this is Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” As a worship

The Bible also presents examples of God’s transcendence as well as His immanence such as in Genesis where God is portrayed as the Supreme Being who is unequal and separate from his creation. God has been personally active in the world since its creation and yet He is also set apart from it, superior in nature. These two attributes are opposite but complimentary, and need to be balanced in order to understand the concept of God as creator. There are numerous references to God’s immanence in Scripture as seen in Psalm 65:9-13 “You care for the land and water it”. Another example of God’s presence with man is noted in Job 33:4: “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. This also suggests Anthropomorphism when it refers to God as having “breath” like a human being. God’s omnipotence and omnipresence demonstrate God’s immanence, as he has universal presence and power within the world. God’s transcendence is referred to in Isaiah 55:89: “As the heavens than the earth,…

God is by definition “something than which nothing which is greater can be conceived” 2. We can conceive of the definition, therefore God exists in our understanding 3. Existing in reality and understanding is greater than existing in understanding alone 4. By definition God then must exist in reality as well as understanding “If something exists in the understanding alone, but can be conceived to exist in reality, then that thing can be conceived to be greater than it actually is.” Which by definition is a contradiction because God is the greatest conceivable being 5.…

Once I was pressed with the question of where and how I see God, I couldn’t stop thinking about where I could have experienced such a thing, because seeing and feeling god is not an easy thing, simply because you can’t feel his being or see him as a person, but that's when the concept of faith comes in, believing and trusting in something like our lord, even when things are imperfect, or even when things are amazing, I could say I see god in simple things, like how he made the wind and sea, or things like my friends and my family, but for me it's so much more than that, God can be a close friend, a father, and something anyone could talk to through prayer, but sometimes it's not…

Moreover, existence cannot be seen to be a predicate of God because, more generally, existence is not a predicate. I argue this because, as Hume and Kant have written, having an idea of something and then having it exist changes nothing about the nature of the thing. In fact “whatever we conceive, we conceive to be existent” (Hume, Treatise on Human Nature). Therefore, unlike describing a bird as blue, describing it as existing changes nothing about our perception of or in fact the bird itself at all.…

God is Omnipresent due to the characteristic of being everywhere. Wherever people are, He is available to them. He is omnipotent due to His ability to be all-powerful. He has the ability of doing anything He wants, however, through his sovereign decision He chooses to let things play out. He is also all powerful due to His honesty. He asks His people to believe in Him for the things He’s done or stands by, not by the things they may think He can do. His abilities are limitless, but they are based on the principles of faith, morals, and doing good for unselfish…

His existence should not be doubted, simply for the reason that God may be an event. All that should be taken from this is the existence of God based on the idea that whatever created the universe is God. However, God can also be proved to be a sentient being. The proof of God being a sentient creature is similar to Rene Descartes belief that the perfect being cannot be imagined within in our own minds, but can only exist if the perfect creature placed the idea within our mind. The problem with this argument is that the idea of perfect cannot be defined, who is to say what perfect is? The idea of perfection is infinite and cannot be truly analyzed, however we can know that the creation of the universe can be qualified as perfect due to our existence and the way nature interacts with itself. The perfect cannot coexist in the universe as we as a species is flawed and cannot attain perfection. The perfection of the universe must exist in one single being. The single embodiment can only be defined as a supreme being. The supreme being can be called anything, but as a society it has been widely accepted to refer to it as…

In the bible God is described as the creator of everything. This is accepted without being questioned rather than being a matter of discussion. The nature of God as creator is most clearly seen in passages from genesis and Psalms. God is described as the creator meaning he designed and produced everything. According to Christian tradition, God caused the Universe to exist, he is responsible for the Universe coming into existence and existing at every moment. God is also responsible for everything that will ever exist in the Universe.…

Transcendence and immanence represent two viewpoints of the relationship people have with God and how they experience him. Transcendence emphasizes the distance between God and humanity. A transcendental point of view sees God as omnipotent, meaning all powerful and distant from man whose responsibility is obedience. Immanence focuses on the union between God and humanity. God is seen as being present in the world, to be experienced in many ways, and humanity’s response is cooperation. Transcendence and Immanence are almost completely opposite each other.…

Certainly, the idea of God, or a supremely perfect being, is one which I find within me just as surely as the idea of any shape or number. And my understanding that it belongs to his nature that he always exists is no less clear and distinct than is the case when I prove of any shape or number that some property belongs to its nature. Hence, even if it turned out that not everything on which I have meditated in these past days is true, I ought still to regard the existence of God as having at least the same level of certainty as I have hitherto attributed to the truths of mathematics… But from the fact that I cannot think of God except as existing, it follows that existence is inseparable from God, and hence that he really exists. It is not that my thought makes it so, or imposes any necessity on anything; on the contrary, it is the necessity of the thing itself, namely the existence of God which determines my thinking in this respect.…

The essay will focus upon the first person of the trinity, God the Father. There is a presupposition that God is knowable, yet not discoverable by human reason. God is known only by divine revelation and, although the works of creation and Providence reveal the existence of God, the ultimate source of divine revelation is the Word of God. God is best known in Jesus Christ as John 14.19 which states that he who has seen me has seen the Father that is reveal through the gospels. God has revealed Himself as existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God’s revelation of Himself, however, is in no way essential to the accomplishment of His works.…
