The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

“There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. When given the assignment of choosing a behavior of mine that I thought I needed to change, I had to really think hard about it. At first, I thought about doing the obvious of changing my eating and exercise habits. However, that week I had just gotten the results of my anatomy exam, and after seeing the grade I got I knew something had to change. This is when I decided to choose to change the way I look at my school work. For that reason, I chose to focus on my study habits by choosing the behavior of procrastination. I choose this behavior of procrastination because since starting my freshman year of college, I had struggled with getting into the routine of spending time on each subject daily. I had found that my old habits of waiting…

Often we see that students procrastinate doing their assignments till that point where they barely have time to finish it. They might think that whatever they want to do other than their assignment might have more benefits at that moment ; and it is seen most of the times that their ‘willingness to pay’ for something that will temporarily take their minds off their pending homework is always greater than doing the homework itself. I think the major reason for this short term escapism might be the fact that the college student leads a very stressful life. An average college student is someone who has left home not long ago. The very fact that the student has to manage day to day activities of life without any help from a guardian makes it difficult for him/her to prioritize the chores at hand. Motivating oneself and managing one’s time when one faces stress or pressure is a difficult skill to learn; and it is specially difficult for a college student who is inexperienced about handling life in general. They not only have to deal with parental /societal expectations of doing well in school but also have a lot going on in their lives like part-time jobs or challenges of living with roommates. In the eyes of a student, an assignment/project is seen as a banal aspect of daily life and however irrational the decision to procrastinate may be, they procrastinate over and over again.…

College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…

11:20 PM found me in front of a glowing computer screen yet again. The essay was assigned weeks ago, but I was cursed with the bad habit of procrastinating. The myth “it is okay to procrastinate” stood out to me because procrastinating is not okay. I am the type of person that will procrastinate if I do not get a quick start to an assignment or project, but if I start right away I never have to worry about turning in an assignment late. Time management is a huge responsibility one needs in order to be successful in an online course and life in general. If a person has good time management he or she should not be much of a procrastinator. This myth caught my attention because I told myself I was not going to procrastinate with this essay; I was going to get it done on this cold snow day when I do not have anything better to do. This myth did not surprise me because without self-motivation and discipline the chance of succeeding in an online course is very slim. How would one expect to get his or her work done if they do not push themselves to do so? In many classes throughout my school day I hear “do not procrastinate on this” and “that due date is approaching quickly.” I get annoyed hearing teacher talk about students being procrastinators every day, but it needs to be said because many are always doing it. Procrastination is all around us. Everywhere we look people are procrastinating with something or another.…
