Reflection: My Internship And Social Care
In my internship, I didn’t have a lot of client interaction, and hands-on experience. If I were to rate my experience, I would say 5 out 10. Dr. Lowe promoted us to attend social work workshops and seminars to expose us to different aspects of working within the community. I was assigned to a daycare facility to assist the owner of the daycare with the kids. I met a child who I thought was being physical abuse. I mentioned it to the Dr., and she instructed me to contact the DCFS. I reported the incident, and she knew who the child was because he was a patient of hers. After I made the report, I was upset and needed an explanation of what is the proper procedure for handling such a case with DCFS. She never gave me any feedback on how to handle such a touch case. She is our supervisor who is very knowledgeable and my go-to person for questions, help, and learning. MB is a life coach who sees her patient’s wellbeing first. She does talk therapy with her clients, and she introduces meditation to help her patients to calm down. MB offers Reiki healing sessions on her patients. She believes that to heal you must take care of their mind, body, and spirit. Currently, I am taking her three classes of Reiki energy healing. My goal is to follow MB and work with her in the future. She is a great mentor to learn from and to have for resources. MB wrote a letter of recommendation for me to enter the Master program in Social Work, in the future I know she will repeat the favor.
Putting closure with the clients, I will miss the children who I sit with on Saturday and talk with while their parents and siblings are in session with the Dr., The patient who I completed my casework assignment on will be ok and he will continue to work with MB. Saying goodbye to the Dr., I plan on purchasing a candle for her and write a Thank you note to her for giving me the opportunity of interning at her

I can remember when I did my undergrad internship at a rehabilitation center; the Physical Therapist explained to me that if a person has ruptured their Achilles tendon, calf raises were one the best exercises. This exercise was potentially one of the best due to it strengthening the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. He also explained that many runners should focus on strengthening exercises, simply because of the wear and tear running they are more susceptible to this type of injury.…

One of those expectations is reporting abuse or suspected abuse. I asked my field work supervisor if she has ever had to file a report because I wanted to hear first-hand how the process works. Luckily, she has only had to contact child protective services a couple of times. I was grateful to hear about her experiences because she talked about aspects the training does not mention. For example, the angry backlash from parents or guardians after a report is made. The reporter’s confidentiality is protected, but sometimes it is easy for the parent or guardian to connect the dots and realize who made the report of abuse. The training also does not cover the emotions that may come up for the person making the report. Discovering a child is being abused is difficult and heart breaking to say the least, but it can be even more difficult if the abuse is taking place in home that one placed the child in or is case managing. The professional may end up feeling guilty and responsible for the…

On wednesday at the Internship I went into the classroom to watch, a presentation she was doing to the participants, it was about making goals. So she gave out some package to the participants where they had to write three goals these were supposed to be their short term goals, plus that they needed to write about at least three ways to accomplish these goals. After they wrote their long terms goals. I think that being in the class and hearing the participants talking about what their goals are and how they are going to accomplish these goals, this had a positive impact on me, because I thought about what are my goals for example graduate from the college I'm enrolled right now, I know what steps I need to take in order to accomplish that phase of my life, but I began to think about my future goals and what steps I should take to be able to accomplish them, so I was like I never thought I had to at least think of different ways to reach my goals, and I think that is a smart strategy, because you should have at least three ways to accomplish your goals in case one of those way don't work, you know you have others ways to reach them.…

I first worked in health care locally during the summer after my sophomore year of college when I volunteered at the People’s Community Clinic. It was there that I got my first look at direct health interventions through making health education materials in the…

As another example, one of my group member as well share her feelings regarding the challenges she is experiencing at her placement. She mentioned that she asked one of the staff members a question regarding the resources they agency uses to help their client, but the staff’s response left her unsatisfied. When she shared this experience, it sounds to me that the question she asked was too generic and not specific, therefore, I did some clarification just to understand specifically what she wants to learn. I was glad to give her a feedback regarding the question she asked because I am doing my placement at an employment agency too, and I am knowledgeable about the question she asked.
