Abstract

The simulation was very interesting and the research from the simulation gives the viewer a better perspective regarding a situation in business. More Beer, Inc. is a branded sports apparel company that involves direct marketing. Fast Serve, Inc has decided to move out of the online distribution. According the evaluations, three employees are to be terminated due to downsizing. The senior manager of Human Resources at More Beer, Inc is considered to be the viewer in this simulation. According to Twomey (2013) “A viewer is to determine those selected for dismissal within a two weeks timeframe that benefits Fast Serve, Inc.” (pg.15). This research paper will analyze key terms that are reflected on the simulation compared to Chapter 14 and Chapter 15 readings.

    Pacific Medical Supply Company was a prominent supplier in the southern California region. They used to supply medical instruments and all other itineraries using a distribution channel consisting of sales commission based Sales force. Jim Shine, the owner of Pacific Medical, started off his career with a background of a salesman at a beach application store. His first venture into the medical supplies business commenced in a garage and slowly climbed up to be a fully fledged business covering Southern California meaning major cities such as Los Angeles. With the company growing big Jim’s role moved from sales rep to sales manager to now in a position where he focuses into the whole companies operations. Jim had adopted a business model which ensured the company to be in the profit side of the margin. Then there was the Jim’s sales commission policies which clearly stated how the commission percentage was set. He also had a major list which stated how the sales commission would be structured. Everything seemed fine till Jim employed his most recent and the youngest sales employee, a young business grad female person, named Nicole Landis. Nicole was very good at her job as a sales rep and brought a different meaning of the sales commission. She worked hard and climbed up the ladder in making more revenues for Jim and consequently commission for herself. Jim saw his projected figures going up my immense degree and was glad he made the decision in hiring Nicole but as time passed, Nicole’s achievement increased so did the negative perception by the other employees.     Eric Palmer is the head of Camden Robotics marketing communications department. He was asked by the CEO, Tom O’Reilly, to turn his department from a cost center into a profit center. Eric has a full team of professionals, some of which are very expensive but he doesn’t end up losing any of them. He simply has to start making a profit or Tom O’Reilly may cut costs in the marketing communications department. Eric starts off great. There are a few customers that are angry, like Andrea Torres, who called to ask why she received a bill for $75,000? And another complaint came from Amanda Black, whose client is Walston Scientific, a competitor of Pandemix. Pandemix received help from Eric on some marketing materials. Walston Scientific wasn’t too pleased. However, Eric is starting to make money, so Tom is pleased and feels like he is mentoring Eric. Everyone was angry about Eric’s approach except Tom. No one could understand why Tom couldn’t see that this idea just wasn’t working. A meeting came up and that’s when Tom finally saw some things he didn’t like. The accounting department gave Tom some numbers and it showed that Eric had undercharged a customer. Numerous complaints had reached Tom by that time so this was the last straw. He decided to have a meeting with Eric to discuss some of these issues. In the meeting Tom brought up some of his reservations. Eric seemed to brush over them and tell him what a great job he was doing. He didn’t understand why Tom wasn’t pleased with him.
