Reasons To Quit Valley Forge
Valley Forge: Would you Quit?
It’s like Thomas Paine said, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” (Paine 153) This is Valley Forge. It’s the middle of the Revolutionary War. Me, along with 12,000 other soldiers are at Valley Forge. So far, there are a lot of bad of living conditions. The weather is too cold to bare and most of us don’t have shoes and are lacking in clothing. Twelve men share a room in a hut and there is bad ventilation. I don’t know if I should re-enlist or quit. For me I’ve decided to re-enlist for three reasons which are to help the sick at Valley Forge, to fight for my country and freedom, and because they needed more men.

On Document A it says that 2,898 men were sick and it was estimated that 1,800 to 2,500 soldiers died. One of the reasons that is helping me consider to re-enlist is that there is so many men leaving or either dying. I could stay and I will probably move up in rank. I will be given more shelter and more food and a whole ton of other supplies which will give me a better chance of surviving here at Valley Forge. I have decided to re-enlist for three reasons which are to help the sick, for the freedom of my country, and Valley Forge needed more men. For many soldiers i understand why they would quit. There are so many bad living conditions, bad weather, clothing, food, diseases and others. But there are also many choices to stay. Would you rather disappoint your country or at least die trying. If more men left then some men could move up in rank and would be supplied, but if more men stayed they would a lot of more help. Some reasons that some people would probably leave is that there are so many sick people at Valley Forge that there is a huge chance for them to get sick too. Another reason is that if you were to have a family, and you died you would have missed your family. Last reason is that there is a huge chance of you dying with all the bad living
