ABSTRACT
Reason for this study
By definition performance systems are not new from a global perspective and as economies of scale dictate the financial stability of corporations so these performance systems will adapt and change. Performance systems have now also been implemented in government employment. Employees who perform at a desired standard now also enjoy financial rewards for their production. Against this backdrop, this research seeks to ascertain whether government employees should get performance rewards specifically in the South African context where the government has struggled to sustain other socio-economic programs such as those for unemployment, crime prevention, health, education and infrastructural development.
Problem
Performance measurement is a process used by corporations to measure the productivity level of their employees against the greater company objectives. It is an assessment of the individual’s contribution to the overall objectives but in line with his or her specific job description. The employee is rewarded within specific policies, in most cases financially, or by other formats they may be a better. By natural existence and historical nature government tries to satisfy every citizen, yet this a huge task by any
