North Korea has a communist, state-run, one-man dictatorship. However, North korea has gone through many steps to get where they are today. In 668 A.d., Koreans were united by the Silla Dynasty. This dynasty united three kingdoms of Korea which included Silla, Paekhe, and Koruryo. After the unification, Korea obtained a more organized bureaucratic model which was in accord with China. This system divided the Korean peninsula into 9 different provinces. The system also included systems of ministries and bureaus. Later, in 1910, Japan colonized Korea. It is said that during this colonization, the Korean people suffered greatly. During this time period, Korea began to modernize and Pyongyang became the capital (center of attraction) of Korea. 35 years later, in 1945, the Cold War and 38th parallel divided the Korean people into North and South Korea. While the North had a more dictatorship structure, the South strived for a democratic system, which clashed.…

There is no real election process for the executive branch of North Korea, just as there are no elections in the government of Oceania (“North Korea”). The judiciary branch of North Korea is practically irrelevant, with no real power once the government decides someone is guilty; this is comparable to how the Party is ran, where everyone they arrest is already guilty (“North Korea”). The final branch of government, the legislative branch, passes every law that the government of North Korea sends it, while in Oceania everything the Party says is law without question. The governments of North Korea and Oceania are very similar when considering the three branches of government.…

Japan as we know it today is a group of islands located in the eastern part of Asia. While it is now a highly populated island filled with large cities, this was not always the case. The earliest people known to live on the islands of Japan were nomadic hunters from northeast Asia. These hunters settled on the islands as early as 35,000 B.C. and are considered the Paleolithic people of Japan. During this time, Japan was connected to Korea and Siberia by a land bridge that had formed when the seas receded after the ice ages. When the last ice age ended, the ice caps melted and the sea levels rose, once again separating the islands of Japan from the main land. This gave birth to the one of the earliest periods of Japan known as the Jomon Period.…

Japan annexed the Korean peninsula in 1910, and the country spent the next 35 years under Japanese military rule. With Japan’s defeat in World War II in 1945, American troops landed in the southern part of the peninsula, while Soviet troops secured the area north of latitude 38˚ N (or the 38th parallel). In this way, communism took firm hold in the north, culminating in the emergence of Kim Il-Sung, who in 1948 would become the first premier of the newly established Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. On the outside it was a democracy. After that, it was a constitutional monarchy because they had a monarch that’s powers were limited by a constitution. On the inside, it was a military junta. A military junta is a government that is run by the military. It was a “democracy” because people theoretically could vote. Although if any of the politicians opposed any war, they would be jailed, assassinated, or beaten to make them vote for what the military wanted. In reality the army made all the decisions. To add to that, the military junta looked like a fascist state. They promoted japanese racial supremacism and they had a secret police who threw away any person who opposed the government's beliefs and actions. Out of all the possible accusations of what government the Japanese had during World War 2, the safest assumption is that The Empire of Japan was a fascist…

Described as ‘The Hermit Kingdom’, the isolated nation of North Korea, through the involvement of propaganda, unique ideologies and strict law enforcement, have masked, to some extent, the true reality of life in their country.
