The movie Helen of Troy shows the important details before and inside the book Iliad. This movie helps the readers to understand this book. Also, it shows how the Trojan war started and how Troy has fallen.
Like in the book, because Helen was taken by Paris, the Achaeans demanded to take her back and conquer and make Troy fall. The movie only shows the important details and the book, and changes the flow of the story to make it more beautiful and appropriate for their theme. After viewing the movie, there are lot of differences between the book Iliad and the movie Helen of Troy. Like in the movie, Achilles is one of the faithful followers of Agamemnon but in the book, Achilles disgusts him and didn’t participate in the war until Patroclus was killed by Hector. Also in the movie, Hector didn’t seem to participate in the battle but in the book, he is the one who leads the soldiers of Troy. There are a lot of differences on the movie and the book but still, they both show how Troy has fallen because of one woman.
The Greeks are plotting to invade Troy to steal the treasures of the Trojans. Meanwhile Prince Paris is assigned by his wise father and King of Troy to travel to Sparta and shows the peaceful intentions of his people. Along his journey, he falls into the sea during a storm and is rescued on the shore by the Queen of Sparta, Helen. When he recovers, he believes that she is a slave and they fall in love with each other. When he arrives at the Spartan palace, he is arrested by King Menelaus but Helen helps him to escape. They travel together to Troy and give the excuse the Greeks need to start the war and put Troy under siege for years. The Greeks are unsuccessful in their intents, until they listen to the cunning Ulysses. The Greeks then withdraw their one thousand ships from the Trojan waters and offer a wooden Horse of Troy as a gift to the winners.

To play the terrifying and intimidating Achilles, Peterson was able get Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt. With casting Pitt, Peterson was able to really emphasis what was found in Achilles during the duration of the epic. Which is why Peterson giving Pitt an additional scene in the movie where it seems as if Achilles has emotions. In the film, Achilles is seen to be grieving the death of a valiant warrior, Hector. Despite that, in The Iliad, Achilles who slaughters Hector, is not seen demonstrating any kind of sensitivity towards the Trojan warrior's demise. The expansion of emotions to Achilles' character again gives the entire drama aspect to the theme of the film. It makes Achilles appear like one of us, rather than the fierce warrior he is really portrayed as in the epic. This gives the modern audience a kind of sensitivity towards Achilles, who has lost his cousin Patrocles and now he has slaughtered the prince of Troy, who like him, cherished his family. Helen was in the end taken by Menelaus, and Menelaus was not executed by Hector.
