Ray Lewis: My Hero In Professional Sports
My hero is a person that doesn’t just play NFL football, but he is also a motivational coach as well. Ray Lewis is one of the most talented players that I know. He inspires me to do the things that I wouldn’t be able to do if I didn’t believe. He is 6’1, 250 lbs of linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. He tries his best in everything he does. Did you know that in 1996 he was the top-rated inside linebacker in the NFL draft? He was also a wrestler at “Lakeland High School.”
A hero to me means somebody who shows or possesses the characteristics of leadership and determination. Leadership to me means; if you are a responsible person maybe it is time to start leading. Being a leader is a great thing. Determination means a lot. Determination to me is something that comes inside of you and pushes you to your limit; if you are line up on the line against somebody bigger than you, than you think of all the training, you did. Everytime he lines up at the Middle linebacker spot, he focuses on one man and one man only - his target. He is so focused that you wouldn’t even ask him a question. Ray Lewis is focusing on his target, making the right move, BOOM! Total greatness has arrived. Ray Lewis explodes through the line of scrimmage through a big and wide open gap. He then make his way through the line and tackles the quarterback.
As you can see, Ray Lewis isn’t just a man; he also a beast. Ray Lewis is my hero because, he possesses my main qualities of a hero. He reminds me of myself in 7th grade at football practice when I was making the plays. He also has been told the same things that I have been told throughout my lifetime. “Hey, you're too small to play football, You're not good enough, You don’t have what it takes to become a superstar.” Ray Lewis proved everybody wrong who doubted him. Even those players convicted, and sent to prison for their “sentence” will be able to return to the football field after being released. Over the past decade the incidents regarding player’s conduct have increased dramatically all the while dragging the NFL’s reputation and ethics through the mud. It begs the question--should these athletes who are the role models for millions, be above the law simply because they are entertainers and celebrities? The answer is no. In my opinion a drastic change needs to happen immediately regarding this growing problem. No longer should players be able to go unpunished for committing crimes. However, to find the solution for this growing predicament—is to establish what factors contribute directly to it. The problem goes beyond the athletes being able to go unpunished for committing crimes. It starts with the league’s menial punishments, team owner’s irresponsible player management, fan attitudes, and the character of the player’s themselves.
