Rate of Yoyo's Sleeping Time
Introduction Toys are one of the most wonderful inventions of mankind. One of the oldest and historical toys in the world is the yoyo. Yoyo is an object consisting of a spool that is reeled up and down on a string by motions of the hand. Yoyo was originally made as a children’s toy, but as it became popular through the years, it was also played by adults. In this modern age, it is hardly to see anyone occupied by yoyo because children, teens and adults are mostly absorbed in the wonders of the technology. The fact that the humans abuse the use of technology as declared by Gironella (2003) proves that no one bothers to put a yoyo on and play with it, unless if technology in those areas can’t be reached by civilizations. Just like in the Philippines, toys like the top and the jackstone are disappearing, including the yoyo. Yet, a bunch of players are still out there learning and developing their skills in performing a wide variety of yoyo tricks, starting first on the most basic trick, the “sleeper”. This trick is the very first requirement before performing the other tricks. The essence of this trick requires the yoyo to be placed on the “sleeping state” where the yoyo, instead of going back to the thrower’s hand, would remain in place while it is spinning. With this trick, one can accomplish many more tricks such as walk the dog and the creeper. Yoyo players also consider the yoyo’s “sleeping time”. This is because it is also regarded as a factor in performing other tricks which requires the yoyo to spin in place while the player is manipulating it. The longer the sleeping time is, the more tricks can be performed by the yoyo players. One point also is that a number of modifications can be applied to a yoyo where it can affect the yoyo’s “sleeping time”, wherein the researcher focused on the string length and weight modifications.
