Ramly Burger
Ramly Burger does not need introduction for Malaysians, and the popularity of the Ramly brand itself eclipses its very own creator, Ramly Mokni. Ramly is the guy who has almost single-handedly changed the way how burgers are commercialized via the 'gerai' concept. In 1970s, imported meat became very popular in Malaysia and Ramly saw the opportunity to have burger meat locally produced at high volume which could match the standard of the imported meat while maintaining its halal standard. So, he opened up a burger processing stalls which later became hot in the town. He named the product after his very own name, Ramly Burger. Ramly quickly moved to expand the business further by incorporating a company as well as using machines to speed up processing and increase daily productions. They also embarked on extensive research to diversify their products and later introduced nuggets, fritters, fingers and others. Today, Ramly Burger Processing continues to produce millions of burgers with its revenue raking up year after year, and with many accolades to its core. The company's annual revenue is now exceeding RM100 millions per year. The Ramly Burger brand is currently not only popular in Malaysia but also selling like hot cake in Singapore. The brand has also stamped its reputation due to its commitment and non-compromising integrity on their halal status. In 2005, In the wake of public outcry on some of the brands which halal status recognition were highly questionable, Ramly Burger, together with few local food producers like Ayamas, stood out from the crowd as those who comply to the highest standard by JAKIM. Ramly was recently awarded as one of the recipients of 'Anugerah Melayu Cemerlang' on May 2006. He has proved that one can succeed without degree, diploma or other higher qualifications. Over the years, Jerry has stood by his original value to just sell burgers and fries and execute it well (Joiner, 2012). His philosophies have remained strong and his success can be attributed to three main factors: Product specialization, human resources, and branding. Product specialization, has given Five Guys the competitive differentiation they need in the market. Burgers are made to order and fresh never frozen with up to 15 free toppings (Boone, 2012, p. 78). This leads to over 250,000 burger combinations (FGH, 2012). Under FAQ’s they only use 80/20 chuck ground beef for quality and cow fat is absent. They always cook their burgers well done to ensure a consistent juicy flavored product across the board that meets health code standards (FGH,…

    1. In-N-Out Burgers have broken all the rules and thanks to that their average per store sales eclipse those of McDonald’s. With that said, In-N-Out’s customers must really enjoy their burger in order to continue going back to the company. In-N-Out has not changed anything since day one and that is their way of keeping their customer’s well-being. As stated in the text, their philosophy till this day still remains the same; “Give customers the freshest, highest quality foods you can buy and provide them with friendly service in a sparkling clean environment.” Based on their philosophy we can see that giving their customers the best food and experience is In-N-Out’s main goal. When it comes to getting every burger ready the company does it best to provide fresh food to their customers. Their patties are never frozen, the veggies are diced by hand the day they are being used, there is no additives or preservatives in their food. Burger King, previously known as InstaBurger King in 1954, is the world’s largest flame-broiled fast food restaurant chain (Daniels, Radebaugh & Sullivan, 2011). Burger Kings core competency lays in the way it cooks its burgers- by its flame broiled method as opposed to grills that fry and also the option that it offers its customers as to how they want their burgers (“have it your way” theme), (Daniels, Radebaugh & Sullivan, 2011).…

By careful reading of the Five Guys’ case study, I think quality product and customer satisfaction is the main philosophy of the Five Guys burger. According to Jerry Murrell "We need to concentrate on the quality of our product, and the satisfaction of the customers". Five Guys maintained its philosophy of quality product for instance freshly prepared bun, fat free meat and no corner cut fries. As mentioned in the case study "The meat for the burgers - 80 percent lean- is always fresh, never frozen and their plants so clean, you could eat off the floor".…
