Raleigh Is Right
In these three poems the idea that is being contrasted is the country lifestyle. For instance, the authors each have their own poem in which they state their own feelings and opinions towards the country. In Marlowe’s poem he shows that he is all for the country, because he describes the elegance and beauties of the country to persuade the shepherd to come live with him. In the poem “The Nymphs reply to the shepherd”
Raleigh shows he hates the country, and in no means will go with the shepherd. He even states that eventually all the pleasures of the country will die out. Along with these two poems Williams agrees with Raleigh, however he states his own twist on what he believes the country offers or has. In Marlowe’s poem he clearly shows his love and interest for the country. He shows this by the Shepherd stating all these pleasures that the country lifestyle or environment has to offer. For example, he tries to convince his love to come by mentioning the pros of the country. For instance, he says”melodious birds sing madrigals,” and “a belt of straw and ivy buds, with coral clasps and amber studs.”His purpose of using these pleasures is to persuade his love to come live with them.
However, all these delights aren't enough for his love because in the next poem “The
Nymph’s Reply to his shepherd,” she explains why all this just doesn't amuse her. Although Marlowe is all for the country, Raleigh is definitely not in favor of the country. For example in the poem “The Nymph’s Reply to the shepherd” the Nymph describes that all these pleasures are nice but eventually they die out and fade. She

even describes the birds leaving and the changing of the seasons. The main point that is stated throughout this essay is that the nymph will not go with the shepherd because she believes young love does not exist. Along with Raleigh’s disagreement with the shepherd, Williams also agrees with not liking the country. However unlike the nymph, he dosent dislike the country, because of the pleasures fading away but, because he believes that country living will only give you struggles, problems and put you in poverty. For example, in his poem he says “empty pockets make empty heads.” By this he means that when you have no money you tend to lose it and go mad. So, despite the country's beauties, Williams also disagrees like raleigh on saying the country isn't the way to go because along with its many great sights, it has its flaws and eventually seasons change causing those peaceful and beautiful sights to fade away and change to gloomy scenery. In conclusion, the three poems have their own views on why or why not they like the country. For instance, each of the three authors explain their claims. In the
Shepherd to his Love it is evident that he loves everything that the country has to offer.
But in the Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd the nymph answers why she believes that the country's pleasures don't please her. Her response is straightforward which shows me that she probably lives in the city or prefers that city lifestyle. In the third poem
Raleigh is right, Williams describes how he doesn't like the country because it will only cause problems and leave you in poverty. If i was the Nymph I would of went with the

Shepherd because the country lifestyle is adventurous and peaceful compared to a bustling city with nevending cars zooming through the streets day and night. In the end the three poems oppose each other each in their own way or perspectives of the two lifestyles, the 2 authors Raleigh and williams agree that the country is not for them and
Marlowe shows his passion towards that way of living.
