Have you ever driven down the express way and seen, 2005 fatality rate 865 in Louisville, buckle up for those you love? Imagine how many of those lives were teens under the age of 18. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that 3,657 drivers from 15 to 20 years-old were killed in 2003. With statistics like these, teens walking home feeling uncertain of their futures. They ask themselves " What will my next car ride bring, will I get home safely?" There are chances of a car shooting out from every proverbial corner at 60 miles per hour. No one will ever know. 16 years-old drivers have things they have not gone through yet that could mean their death if they don't understand how to drive defensively. They must be able to see and watch out for things around them. When they are driving home, they are always under a constant fear of the certain "unknown"; why can't we lift that off their chests by making them feel safer on the road?
Fortunately, not all teens are reckless driver. Some of them show maturity and they are able to comprehend the rules of the road. Even with that said, you ask why to raise the driving age to 18? You can not get too much practice right? Even though teens shows maturity, but that is not what all a good driver needs, experience is the key to safe driving. By raising the legal driving age to 18 can help achieve that goal. People, by law, become adults at the age of 18. They have more responsibility themselves, and are more conscious with their actions. They are ready to deal with the consequences of what they did. They will be more careful when they drive, which make them safe and good drivers.
All in all, raising the legal driving age to 18 necessary. It can resolves many issues about reckless teens roaming the streets. It also reduces accident rates and improves the statistics that we have today about teens driving. Driving safely isn't the only thing this law will accomplish, but also driving with respect to others. Just because of this law, many different and awesome things will happen: people will save more money, less tragic deaths caused by reckless teens, and the most important all, one will have more confident when they drive. I believe this is a thing that just has to be done.

Teenage accident rates and mortality rates have increased dramatically over the years. Nothing that the parents do and law enforces will protect the teens all the time, especially from themselves. Teenagers do not realize the responsibility that comes with driving. They are often distracted with other things such as texting while driving. Most importantly, parents always worry about the safety of their kids on the road. Some people may say that the driving age should stay at the age of 16; however, raising the driving age to 18 will create safer and more responsible drivers. Firstly, teenagers are very careless. In addition, increasing the minimum driving age will allow teenagers more time to get comfortable with driving. Finally, the number of fatal accidents will be reduced. Therefore, the minimum driving age should be raised from 16 to 18.…

Because of safety concerns, many states have increased the age at which teens can begin to drive. Some teenagers at the age of 16 are responsible. Some 16 year olds are irresponsible. Also, all 18 year olds are not responsible and able to drive the correct way. The state legislature should not raise the minimum age from 16 to 18 because some 16 year olds have a job and need transportation, a few may not like to depend on individuals to drive them back and forth, and many teenagers like to do their own things and not always with their parents.…

Others would argue against this and say that they should raise the driving age because teens are not experienced enough when they first start driving and think that all teens are not responsible enough to own a car and drive it.In the Traffic Safety Facts, it states that “In 2008 5,864 15 to 20-year-old drivers were involved in fatal crashes”.Many people want the driving age raised because of all these fatal crashes and there is a lot of statistics and facts that a lot of teens are getting into fatal crashes so many people don't feel safe driving around with teens because they feel like they might get involved in one of these fatal crashes with a teen. Also, parents feel like their kid's lives are in danger every day because they don't know what would happen on the road with many teens that are not experienced at driving. On the other hand, if these driving programs are issued in every state the roads will be safer. In the article Teenage Driving Laws May Just Delay Deadly Crashes, Dr.Matsen states “New Jerseys tough laws may have just shifted the effect to 21-year-olds,similar to the way tough restrictions on 16 and 17-year-olds were followed in a spike in deadly crashes among 18 years old in other states”.Parents and people don't need to worry about teens getting in fatal crashes on the road if the driving programs are issued around the country then everyone will be safe, and with the driving programs issues around the country they don't need to raise the driving age because…

Research Paper Raising Driving Age to 18 In the 13 July, 2011 USA Today newspaper article by William Van Tassel, manager of AAA’s driver training program, says that, “ Teens do continue to drive distracted even when they recognize the dangers,” According to the teen driving statistics that are provided by the CDC, about 3,000 teens died in auto accidents in 2009 and 350,000 were treated for injuries. For all those reasons, I think the legal driving age should be raised to 18 from 16. One shocking thing I have found is that it is not only because of their teenage age, but that they are inexperienced drivers. In addition, The driver's ed classes are also effect on teenage driving ways. The classes need to be more strict driving safety. However, bad teenage driving has recently resulted in many tragic deaths; most 16 and 17 years drivers are not mature enough to take decision on the road. All problems can be solved by giving good instructions to all teenagers, buckle up while driving, and the most important thing raising the legal driving age to 18. I've researched about teens driving at the age of 16, and I found out that the deaths aren't from reckless driving alone, but also the drivers are inexperienced. I was reading the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and the headline stated “Teens need more than crash course in safety". Driver’s ed classes are the most important thing how teenagers drive; however, in those classes, they mostly teach about how to pass the driving test. For example, I took my driver’s ed class in 2009, in my high school. Their teaching class was 15 days long, but their teaching class on driving car was only 2 days long. This is how I passed my driver’s ed class, yet I did not learn enough from their practice driving. In addition, the book “Crash Proof Your Kids” said, “your advice or approach to a given driving situation may differ from the advice given to your teen by his driver education book or teacher.”(pg 48) To be able to…

I do not believe the minimum driving age should be raised. A trend in recent years has shown that the amount of 16-17 year olds involved in deadly car crashes has been reduced, and 18-19 year olds involved in deadly accidents has increased. In states with Graduating License programs, the amount of 16 year olds involved in deadly accidents has gone down 16 percent. A GDL (Graduating License) can restrict teens from driving at night, with passengers, and it can make them drive with supervision for a given amount of time. This will give teens safe and quality experience behind the wheel. Since 1996, 1,348 fewer fatalities involving 16 year olds and 1,086 more fatalities involving 18 year olds have been linked to Graduating License programs. So, why would we raise the license limit to 18 or 19 when fewer 16 and 17 year olds, and more 18-19 year olds are causing fatal accidents (Roan)?…

In many ways it benefits the teenager, the teenager’s parents, and people around them. Driving can be a privilege for all teenagers if they do it by the law. I think that the current driving age should not be raised, because it teaches teens responsibility, gets teens to places faster and easier, and will be beneficial for their friends and family.…
