Millions of people everyday suffers from the pain of arthritis or osteoporosis. According to the surgeon general, “the health status of Americans appears to be in jeopardy and left unchecked it is only going to get worse as the population ages. Each year and estimated 1.5 million individuals suffer from osteoporotic-related fracture (Surgeon General, 2004).” As the body ages it becomes more prone to diseases and infections like arthritis and osteoporosis. These are a few of the most common disease related to the aging process. An elder person will begin to suffer from falling more often. Take your grandmother for instance, how often has she been to the doctor due to a broken ankle or fractured hand, all because of a fall. Elderly have a poor ability to catch their balance and is very dependent on the strength of their bones and muscles. Women are more prone than men to develop osteoporosis, but it can be found in both sexes. Arthritis is the swelling of joints and causes a lot of pain. Pain can be in the wrists, hands, neck, knees, every joint you can think of. Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones and can leave a person lacking bone tissue. Tips to avoid these types of bone diseases as you age; exercise regularly, take your calcium (milk, vitamins, etc.), and vitamin D. Now there are also some things to avoid such as excessive protein intake, smoking and drinking. Now, if you keep all of this in mind, protect your bones, treat them well, they will help you on into your elder years as long as you take all of this into consideration. Live pain free for as long as you can! Be carefree while you can! You are trying to live to your fullest! Have a great day and thanks
