Racism, Prejudice And Racial Discrimination In The United States
Although discrimination against other races from white isn’t as bad as it use to be , it is still a major problem in the United States today. People may think that racism doesn’t exist anymore, however, racism has just been redesigned because of the media scaring white americans.
Cory Booker acknowledges that right now, the United States has more African-Americans under criminal supervision than they had slaves in the 1850s because of racism today. Angela Davis said that the war on drugs in the late 1900s was actually just a war on colored communities. Saying that it was a war on drugs was just a way of hiding what white americans were actually fighting. While Bill Clinton was in office he passed new crime which made it harder on criminals. His new laws consisted of a three strike policy which means on your third crime or felony you must spend life in prison no matter what the crime was. The black prisoners would be separated from the white prisoners, and the guards in the prisons, who were mostly white, would physically abuse the black prisoners just because they feel that they are better just because of the color of their skin. The 13th amendment not only allowed prisons to make the black prisoners slaves, but it also gave the racist people in the prisons the advantage to treat the black prisoners however they feel because they are convicted of crimes and people are scared of the black prisoners.
