Racism In Our Society
Racism In Our Society

People in our society tend too have racist habits towards people that are African American, Asian, East Indian etc. They get treated differently not only because of their skin color but also how they talk and what they wear. Before we meet people we tend too judge them on their skin color or what kind of cultural clothing they are wearing, I can admit that I have been judgmental on somebody’s skin color before and what they are wearing. I bet all of you have judged somebody else on his or her skin color before as well, even if it was simply just moving too the other side of the street at night when you see an African American man walking towards you.

Personal Story
My auntie’s friend had a son that she adopted when he was around 2 years old, he was African American and he never thought anything different of himself being in a white family. It just felt normal too him. But one day he went too school and he didn’t have any friends yet in his class because of the new school year. But then he came home one day ran straight too the bathroom closed the door and locked it. When they finally got it opened they found him using white dove soap on his skin too wash off the black because he felt that only people with white skin could have friends.

Problem
Unrightful accusations of people cause of there skin color, for example east Indian people getting random searches at the airport, not everybody is a terrorist just cause they have a turban, or the Asian guy driving, not all Asians are bad drivers they are just stereo typed too be bad drivers so that’s how everybody thinks.

How to change

Talk to the people first don’t just assume and judge them because you don’t know who they are until you spend time with them, maybe your stereotype is right but that doesn’t mean you need too be racist and it doesn’t mean everybody is the same. (Etc. not all Asians are bad drivers but some may be)

In today’s society in America we still have and witness racism. Today we expect that our schools create an equal outcome for all its students. Whether they live a "normal" lives or their homes are severely disadvantaged by family and community poverty. But the children who come from severely disadvantaged families and are suffering go to school with sometimes unqualified or inexperienced…

Living now in the 21 century you may see many types of cultures and ethnicities. As for these types of races we have become numb to the feeling of racism. For a particular reason racism has been going on for centuries. Depriving people from what they have and what they look like is a characteristic of racism. As for now racism seems to be becoming bigger and bigger. Due to labeling races and its importance to society today.…

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite.” Nelson Mandela, a leader of the fight to end apartheid in his home country of South Africa helps shed light on how racism can be fought in the United States. Even though America has come a long way from the times of slavery, racism continues to exist all over the country. Americans can learn to love one another, but they must first discover the roots and causes of racism and stop it before it spreads. In order to deal with racism, Americans often: refuse to accept the facts, accept it as a way of life, and do not do enough to stop its practice.…

Stereotypes is still a problem around us, and it is affecting our behavior and performance. We’ve done a research in which we discussed each other the stereotypes towards Asians and Mexicans; from least to greatest. The least common to an Asian person is that they are racist to other people, while Mexicans are thought to eat Mexican food. Of course these ideas are not the case to both nationalities since they are…

I can remember riding in the car on my home from school as a little girl and listening to the lyrics of the song titled Black Butterfly by Deniece Williams and wondering to myself “ Is she talking about me?!” Much of my ethno-cultural heritage is tied up in the fact that I was born in the south as a l black girl and am part of a family that had an active pioneer in the civil rights movement in our mist. I have been raised to always believe that I was just as smart as, just as pretty as, and just as capable as any white child I might be in class with and it was my duty to the world to show that fact.…

Rachel, I wholeheartedly appreciate the sentiment and ideas expressed in your post. They were well thought out and prompted me to question the whitewashed history we are taught in America. Not only does your creation of this post shed light on the unjust and poor treatment of the (forced) black women who fought for this country, but has pushed me to question just how many minorities went through the war (and the rest of history).…

Racism has been around for decades, but luckily as time has gone on people are more accepting of other races. A race is defined as groups of people who have differences and similarities in biological traits deemed by society to be socially significant. In this picture above, there is my sister in law and her husband with their children. My sister in law and her husband have different color skin. On paper, when my sister in law is asked what her race is she colors in the circle that says White and her husband fills in the circle for Hispanic. However, when it comes to ethnicity she is not considered white she would be Irish and French and he is Puerto Rican. My sister in law, who has been blessed with three beautiful children has unfortunately encountered unpleasant situations when it comes to her family.…

Not every Asian is smart and every black person knows how to dance. People are so fast to make assumption based on looks. In our world today a boss might not hire a person because of their race. A girl might be covering hair and she would be considered a Muslim. A black guy might be kicked out of fancy restaurant because the owner might think that he doesn’t have money. Labeling some one based on their color or what they wear, shows racism in you. You’re judging someone without knowing them.…

When people are using racial stereotypes, they often think that they are better than the other person based on the color of their skin. In the article “Stereotypes” by Saul McLeod, he uses research on stereotypes by Katz and Braly which states, “Not surprisingly, racial stereotypes always seem to favor the race of the holder and belittle other races” (McLeod,Katz,Braly). A person who is set on pre-judging someone is that they are better than someone of another race. Some feel as though no one of another racial background can equal to them or is not even worthy to sit and eat with them, all because they do not have the same skin color. People cannot choose what race they want to be. As people belittle each others races, those that they belittle may be left thinking, together they are really better because they are black, white, Latino, or Indian.…

Simply put, a representative democracy is a system of government in which all eligible citizens vote on representatives to pass laws for them. As Americans, we elect a president and members of Congress, and also elect local and state officials. All of these elected officials supposedly listen to the populace and do what is best for the nation, state or jurisdiction as a whole. Is this real autotomy of choice? If so does the hypocritical platform that America was founded upon affect our present day lives? Voting officials into office to make decisions for us does not constitute real freedom or liberty of choice. Every decision made in contemporary American government is affected and altered by the way American freedom was developed.…

There are many different definitions of racism, which is a system of unequal power and privilege by which one racial group dominates others; David Wellman (1977) defined it as a system of advantage based on race. In the U.S. racism is a product of white racial prejudice and discrimination, reinforced intentionally and unintentionally to the advantage of whites and the disadvantage of color (Hilliard 1992). In America, white people are represented as the dominant group. Most of these are made implicitly or indirectly. For example in textbooks and in media emphasize heroes role models…

I have come to realize that just because I am African American and my classmate in school is African American does not mean that we share the same values or view life the same way. We all come from different backgrounds, walks of life, and have totally different experiences. Whether our experiences are good or bad could also determine our perception. For example, two people could be from the same ethnic group but have two different socioeconomic experiences. Or I could be going up for the same job as an African American male and he could get the job over me just because he is a man.…

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Martin Luther. Martin Luther speaks for the black community when he says this, but I think that this quote can represent more. It can represent racism, inequality, wage gap, and much more. There are many problems in America today, and they all seem to do with hate. Although the United States is known for being a top tier country, there are a lot of problems within the country that could tear the nation apart.…
