One challenge that Percy faced was that he did not know what was going on with him in the future. It states on page 19, paragraphs 4-10, “ I mean the Kindly One was in school! Now that we know for sure that they know too… The summer solstice deadline… Now just worry about keeping him alive until next fall.” This proves that he does not know what is going to happen in the future to him.

    In “If Black English Isn’t a Language, Then Tell Me What Is?”, James Baldwin believes that Black English is simply a dialect. He continuously gives examples of how some languages are considered dialects and why they are not only dialects. He also continuously defines what a language is. Language, in general, “reveals the speaker.” It allows the people to “evolve a language in order to describe and control their circumstances.” Baldwin’s example is of the language of French.
