Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2) Pre-Test: The AAPI-2 assesses the parenting and child rearing attitudes of adult populations. The five areas assessed are: Inappropriate Expectations, Empathy, Corporal Punishment, Role Reversal, and Power Independence. Scores are presented as a Sten, or Standard Ten, which range from 1-10. Scores within the norm lie from 4 through 7. The scores are reported in a Standard ten format, with numbers from 1-10 representing different percentages of the population. Low sten scores (1-3) generally indicate high risk for practicing known abusive parenting practices. High sten scores (8-10) indicate the expressed parenting attitudes reflecting a nurturing, non-abusive parenting philosophy. Mid-range sten…

In an article written by Diane Dew, titled The Trouble Teens Face, It was stated that in recent years the media has been flooded with articles about the problems teens face. These problems range from drugs and violence, to pregnancy and abortion. I want discuss abortion because it is such an important issue for my generation. Since the 19th century English common law forbade abortion. Abortion prior to quickening was a misdemeanor and then a felony. In 1967 the first two states to make abortion legal was Colorado and California. By June 1970 New York passed its first abortion on demand law with a 24 week limit. It was the 16th state to allow abortion when the other states were still very restrictive. They only allowed abortions for pregnancies involving rape, incest, life of the mother or fetal handicap.…

An assessment involves administering and interpreting psychological tests and integrating this with current and past symptoms, observations, information about developmental, biological, social, educational, and life experiences (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2006). Educational assessments of adolescents are based on obtaining a profile of the child’s learning weaknesses as well as his or her strengths. When picking my adolescent I had quite a few choices to pick from but I decided on my adolescent 15 year old sister since I know a lot about her and have seen first-hand how she is coping with this adolescent stage. Patricia is a normal 15 year old girl still in high school. She lives in a household of 7 with 3 older siblings and one younger one. She mentioned that she lived in a small home with three dogs, two fish, a bird and six other humans. Both her parents are field workers so they aren’t really at home much. Patricia has a younger 7 year old sister that she pays attention to a lot, they have a really close relationship, and she cares for her younger sister when her mother is at work. Patricia is in a special program in her high school called the International Bachelorette Program “IB,” this program challenges high school students and gives them and idea of what college is like after they graduate. She gets a lot of homework every day for all her classes, she manages to do all of it and still helps take care of her younger sibling.…

Being a teenager during the late 1950’s was very different from what it is today. My uncle Bill Mills, who is 72 years old, told me of how he grew up in what seems like it would be an entirely different world. After asking him several questions about what teenager life was like I found out how different life really was.…

For this adolescent observation assignment I observed four adolescents at a home get together, there were two girls and two guys. One girl was sixteen years old, while another girl was seventeen years old. Both of the guys were seventeen years old. Their names are Rebecca, Amanda, Elias, and Aaron. There physical appearances did not seem to have much in common. Rebecca is African American, Amanda is Hispanic, Elias is also Hispanic, and Aaron is white. Aaron and Amanda look very put together and wouldn’t embarrass anyone by walking into a church or nice restaurant. Rebecca is dressed a little more provocatively and wouldn’t look out of place at a club. Elias appears to dress more casually with just a graphic t-shirt and jeans. The adolescents are aware that I will be taking notes for an assignment on their interactions. The evening starts with them just hanging out and talking about what they have been up to. The topic quickly moves into gossip though with even the guys interested in it. I pretty much predicted that gossip would be impossible to avoid because it is so ingrained in our lives. They discuss who’s cheating on whom, and who likes who, and all sorts of romantic coupling possibilities.…
