Qualitative Research Design
The research design which will be applied will be a qualitative research method among abusers, victims, and healthcare professionals. Data collection instruments and techniques that will be used are comprehensive interviews, observation techniques, and historical document review. Detailed interviews and focus group consultations will be conducted among women and men who have been court ordered to attend counseling sessions or anger management classes due to domestic violence. The focus will be on their translations of the events in question, and if either the abuser and/or victim consumed alcohol or drugs prior to the event. Questionnaires will be supplied to healthcare providers, social service employees, and responding police officers to explore perceptions and insights of the impact alcohol and drugs on domestic violence, especially in the area of repeat offenses. Written information will be evaluated using a thematic structure tactic and will involve line-by-line program to establish a coding system.
In order to recruit respondents, I will rely on the help of social service agencies and public court documents. Counseling agency staff will be asked to contact possible survey participants, as well as explain the objectives of the research, and attain verbal and written consent from those who agree to participate.
